Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I have now used this mower for about a month to mow an area of 1 1/4 acres. It has delivered a smooth, even cut, in spite of the fact that much of the area is somewhat rough. The reverse implement switch seemed as though it might be awkward, but I adapted to it very quickly, and found that combined with the mower's short turning radius, I was able to mow around trees as small as 8- 10 inches in diameter. The only minor complaint I have, is that the fuel gauge is in a less than convenient spot to monitor when filling the tank, and, I think that a larger fuel tank would be better for this engine size. Overall, a great mower for a very reasonable price. May 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Don't settle for poseurs. Get yourself a Deere I've had the mower for a month now and couldn't be happier. It is a BEAST. I used to dread mowing my one acre lawn, now I look forward to it. It makes short work of my lawn, even when the grass is too long and soaking wet. The controls are easy to use, the engine is strong enough for just about any task, and the 48" deck means you won't be spending all of your time mowing the lawn instead of enjoying your free time. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by John Deere D-140 Lawn Tractor Some of the plastic parts are very easy to get broken. I lost to the tool compartment the first time i pulled it on a trailer, I think the wind broke it off. The piece that holds the hood on was broken when I opened it to check the oil. June 24, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor warranty coverage and customer service from John Deere Drive belt broke during normal usage on a flat lawn after about 3 months. I had the John Deere warranty and had purchased the home depot extended warranty as well. Called John Deere, and got no help. They suggested I repair it myself, and tried to sell me a repair manual for $XX.00. I asked them if they would at least send me a new belt to replace the defective one, as there is no way the belt could have broken in such a short period of time unless it was defective. They suggested that I purchase another belt from hardware store. I did. Now I'm out $XX.00 for belt and the 4-5 hours that it took for me to take the deck off and perform the repair. I wonder why I bought the extended warranty? August 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does a great job! Steers easy, comfortable ride, even cut on slopes and tight around trees. Works great for small and large yards. Can handle pine needles and small, dry, tree debris! We cut two different lawns, one is small but with pine needle. The other is 2.5 acre slope and uneven in spots. May 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product and great buy! Consumer Reports rates the D140 as a "Best Buy" based on features, reliability, and price. This lawn tractor has great features and is very easy to use. April 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'll Sum it Up for You I've been cutting my grass with a 1967 model 60 and with great respect for John Deere engineering and quality control. Last summer the 46 year old lawn tractor started to smoke and I decided to let someone else deal with that. It was time for some new technology. After researching the tractor forums I decided on the D140 based on owner satisfaction over the 3 years it's been on the market. Home Depot in Seabrook ordered it in for me along with the free 7P trailer and a highly recommended front bumper option for $79. Picked it up today and mowed grass and fall leaves with it and was very, very impressed. The mower deck is extremely high speed and throws very far. The twin V engine is powerful, smooth and sounds nice. The seat is very comfortable. It's the best mower I 've ever driven! Scott from Lawn and Garden an Allan the assistant store manager were really customer focused and nice to deal with. Hats off to Seabrook store. April 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome purchase My brothers and I picked this tractor up as a Christmas present for our parents. They were ecstatic to receive it. The unit is a little taller than is probably necessary, however the wide rear tires should help with stability and ride comfort. It has yet to be tested on sidehills. The forward and reverse pedal are made of plastic and I would prefer to see metal used for as much stress they will receive. The rest of the unit is great. The location and ease of use for the deck height and engagement are wonderful. Start up is quick and it runs strong. The deck wash out sounds to be a great feature but has yet to be used.
