I had mentioned in an earlier review that I was skeptical of how the John Deere D-170 with the snow blower would perform on a 300' long drive with a 15% grade at the end. But I also said I would report back as to its performance.
Well, it did what it said it would do especially during the blizzard where we got 24" of snow. Here is a summary.
In wet snow the blower had the most difficulty. The snow shout would sometimes clog and have to be cleaned out. This could be avoided by proceeding at a pace the snow blower could handle. Going to fast would lead to a clog.
Since I am a statistician and not a regular user of tractors, I had to learn to be patient and go at a pace the snow blower could handle. I learned to listen to the sounds of the blower to guage when I was going to fast.
During the blizzard in powdery light snow, the tractor truly shined. In fact, my neighbor has his driveway plowed and his plow truck got stuck in the snow! Yes, I have pictures. I have to admit it was fun to use the John Deere to clear snow so they could get their snow plow truck out the next day.
Be sure to buy extra shear pins. I had to use two, because I went to fast into a large pile of snow the city snow trucks left in the front of my driveway.
The bottom line is I saved $500 dollars on having my driveway plowed. The payments made on the other hand build equity in the tractor.
The tractor now has 13.5 hours on it. I will report back after the summer mowing season. FYI, I was paying $180/month to have my lawn mowed by a service. At least the payments now will go toward building equity in the tractor.
Depending on maintenance costs I expect the investment to break even in 2.5 years. Less than that if the equity in the tractor is included.
So far, I definitely recommend John Deere, especially through Home Depot with their deferred financing and their sales associates' genuine desire to help people like me.

I have been using this snowblower on our L120 for 10 years. In that period it has moved a lot of snow. It is a bit of a bear to assemble and install the first time - the installation manual was all but useless. Once you get the hang of it, it goes on and off fairly easily. I have had no problems whatsoever with it, and recommend it highly. It is about ready for new skids on the front, a decade of use has taken it's toll.

Bought the 42 inch blower and installed it on my L130 in 2004. Have replaced the worm gears twice, the lift mechanism once, the impaler, numerous shear pins, and about 4 belts. I am now having problems with the pulley wheels as they get older. All said, I have to clear a 50 yard driveway and 200 yard street in an area of Colorado that gets 150 inches a year, and when it's working, it does a great job. As one writer mentioned, it does take some practice to maneuver. Can't push more than a 6 inch slice of snow uphill. Don't get caught on a down slope. Lift the blower every time you move to another location where you are not blowing the snow. Lift the blower when you back up. Go slower for bigger loads of snow. Spray some WD-40 on the augers and impaler before use.

Despite looking complete on the web page - the snow thrower doesn't come assembled, and it is NOT an easy job, especially for someone new to the game. Although Home Depot customer service has been very responsive, they are not certain they can assemble it, and even if they could, they would charge me a ton to do it. If I had know this, I would have bought from a Deere dealer, who would have assembled it and delivered it for the same prices as HD. Be warned.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bman A Great Attachment
Upon ordering this attachment, it went on to immediate "back order". I ordered it after the first big snow in Buffalo. It took slightly longer than the instructions indicated to assemble. There were some parts that had really close tolerances and were factory painted. It took a bit to remove the paint to get those parts together. Outside of that, it went together pretty much in line with timeline indicated in the instructions. I did have an issue with the lower auger belt on the first use. The belt rolled in the track and then broke. Home Depot referred me to the John Deere customer service to address the issue. They refused to send me a replacement belt and insisted I take the lawn tractor and the new attachment in for service. Home Depot was very helpful in rectifying the situation with me directly. I purchased and installed the new belt myself. I have used the attachment three times since and have had no further issue. I believe the belt was defective. The controls for the chute direction and the deflector are a little unstable as to where they are mounted. That is my only complaint. I did chain up the front tires along with the rear tires for better steering control. I installed it on a John Deere D140 and it handles the load fine.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BonanaKing So far, so good.
I have not had a chance to actually move any snow yet as it's still fall and awesome weather. I will update that part when then snow flies.
The unit arrived well packed and on a pallet. Took about an hour or so to assemble and about 15 minutes to hook up to the tractor. Operation is very straightforward. All controls are right where you need them, discharge chute direction and angle adjustment and lift lever.
My only real complaint so far is the lift pins are a pain to assemble and maybe a hydraulic lift would be nice.
This is on my JD D140

Took forever to get the blower drive put together properly. Not worth the money or time invested.
