Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2* Years Later... I'm heading into my third season of using the Z235, and my opinion has not changed; 5 stars. I have had no problems with my equipment after the first 58 hours of use. It still runs, cuts, and looks great. After the first year, the cut quality deteriorated significantly. If you experience the same issue, you'll likely need to adjust the mowing deck. I suspect the cables stretch more during the first year of use, so the deck may not need adjusting as often going forward. Comprehensive instructions to adjust the deck are in the Owner's Manual. Also, my tires lost a lot of pressure after the first year, so you'll also want to keep tabs on the air pressure to maintain a nice cut. Do these two things, and change the oil/plugs/filters as specified, and you'll have a reliable machine for years to come (I hope). April 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value I have owned some great jd Mowers like gx345, x724 and a X310 but this is probably the Best buy I've had. Runs great, Starts quick, easy to clean up, The lawn looks like a pool table Still have the x724 but my z235 Is more fun and faster. March 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great mower with some minor issues I purchased this mower almost a year ago and wanted to really test it before writing a review. This is my first Zero Turn so it only took a few minutes to get use to it. The dealer gave me a crash course in the parking lot before I took it home. The very first cut looked like garbage. grass was uneven. The deck was misaligned. after making a minor adjustment it was fixed. I even put a set of mulching blades on it. Even better, perfect cut. Now for the oil changes. Drain tube is too short so you will make a mess. My advice, buy a heater hose or a long funnel to attach to the end. problem solved. You will also make a mess replacing the filter. just fold up a shop rag and slide it underneath. The machine does not like to start up in colder weather. so if its below 40 deg outside, it will take a minute and sound like junk. once that oil warms up it will start to sound better. all in all, its a fun machine. cuts my time in half. My wife enjoys it more then I do. very easy to operate and she is a girly girl. March 2, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by piece of junk I had a old john deere mower for about 20 year and it had many problems and took forever to get started. so I went and bought the new zero turn mower and i have had it for about 3 weeks. it was started up and i drove it around when they delivered it and i started it up once since then. so today when i go out once the ground is dry and not to cold (about 45 degrees), because i wanted to pick up leaves, it wouldn't start, so i read the owners manual and it told me nothing i didn't all ready know. so i try ed every two minutes like it said for like 30 minutes and it sill did not start. my 8 year old ATV starts right up but NOT MY 3 WEEK OLD, BRAND NEW LAWN MOWER. and costumer support is closed Sundays. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does Great Z235 This is my second John Deere mower but my first zero turn. I read some of the reviews and wondered if a couple of them actually were reviews of the Z235. Wondered because of mentioning of a headlight. Maybe an add on item? Anyway, it took a little getting use to mowing since this was my first zero turn mower. Once I mastered that, it works like a dream. So much easier to mow. The quality of the mower seems to be good, I've not had any problems. I also purchased a bagger and mulching deck & blades (to be used independently of each other). I found that the mulching deck/blades are not as useful to me as the bagger, since I cut my grass to around 3 1/2" - 4" and you shouldn't cut the grass when wet using these. When I use the mulch-er blades the grass bunches up in clumps which doesn't look good when I'm finished. The bagger, on the other hand, works great. I can mow when the grass is a little damp and it does a good job of picking up the grass. As far as mechanically speaking, the unit works as I would have expected it would, being a John Deere. I'd also like to mention that someone noted that the rear tires are wider then needed. I'd have to agree to that. When mowing, it is difficult to follow your next row and you have to mow over part of the previous row to make sure you're cutting all the grass. Out of the 42' cut, I end up only being able to cut about 36". Engineering dept. take note! January 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Almost a great mower I just wish the engineering department would have inspected their final product before sending it to dealers. Why would they send out a mower with a deck smaller than the rear wheel width? Simply use either narrower rims & tires or add a wider deck. The mower has plenty of power for a larger deck and then some. I inquired if any other deck would fit and was told no. I was excited to use the mower but it didn't take long to discover it's downfall. Other than this problem it is an excellent unit. Just disappointed..... October 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I like it a lot. Great mower with a few issues that you can deal with. Oil drain tube is an inch and a half short, cant get to right spindle zerk, gas tank refill. Really small things in the overall picture. gas refill, no problem just fill it up after every use and listen for the gas to gurgle and fill up the neck. Oil drain 10 hours and the next one is 50 hours, I just wipe up the oil from my garage floor, and the zerk I can mangage to get to it, just a little difficult. I can go slow or I can scoot, great fun machine. August 14, 2014
