Asked by: bob
A limited yes. Owner's manual says not use on a slope of more than 10 degrees. My experience is that regular lawn mower tires will not grip sufficiently to hold the mower in place on much of a slope if you are traveling across, as opposed to up and down the slope. This is true of any riding lawn mower, not just this one. I have not tried it but if you want risk tearing up the turf some you can try using tires with more of a farm tractor type tread.

It cut my mow time in half or more from my previous push mower. It handles very well and is easy to use when doing the edges. If you are looking to get a zero turn mower this might just be the one for you. The only real con is the price of the attachments. I wanted the bagger, the hitch, and the mulching kit. This did add on a significant price. But overall still excited. It is making my life easier and that's why I wanted it. I have a fairly large yard and in the spring time when I need to mow every 3-4 days this thing is going to give me back so much time to be able to work on other projects.

Only got 5 years out of the Toro deck due to it completely rusted out. Toro front tires kept going flat until I put tubes in them. Only have done one cut so far with the Deere, but I'm impressed. Seems to be more stable than the toro, back tires have a wider stance and better grip. The choke-less start engine is better than the toro. The toro had a 22 hp kawasaki engine, but I had some issues with it running smooth after using the choke to cold start it. The 22 hp Briggs/Stratton handled the thick south florida grass with ease. The side shoot on the Deere is much wider than Toro so I foresee less clogging in damp conditions. The only area the Deere seems to be behind the Toro is going in reverse, the Toro was more responsive when backing up. Waiting to see if I can get more than 5 years out the deck on the Deere in the humid and hot south florida conditions.

After I mowed my yard the second time I found oil that appeared to be leaking from the top of the motor. I took to Robstown Hardware, an authorized dealer, and they fixed it less than a week. It has done fine since. I mows the flattest yard I have ever had. One con. With my previous mower I could push my hurricane fence over enough with the deck to mow underneath the fence. On this mower the ends of the bolts on the anti-scalp wheels catch in the hurricane fence because the nuts are turned to the outside. I over came this by turning the bolt on one side over so that the smooth bolt head is on the outside. As I said, I really like this mower and would recommend it to anyone.

I shopped for a 42" zero turn mower for several months (I needed to fit through a 48" gate) and after many comparisons I found the John Deere Z345M was the best value. I took several things into consideration before making my decision, I looked at online reviews, consumer reports, and forums in regards to the engine manufacturer, deck mowing quality, mowing speeds, over all mower features and quality. I also considered where the nearest certified repair center was if I would need warranty repairs or service/ parts after my purchase. After all my comparisons the John Deere had the most bang for the buck! The icing on the cake that helped me make my decision was the customer service at Home Depot as well as the special financing and rebates that Home Depot offered. I have mowed with it one time so fare and was very impressed with the speed and quality of job it did mowing. I was able to mow my entire property in half the time it took with my old 42" tractor. The only down fall I can tell so far is that John Deere's warranty is shorter than its competitors, hopefully I will not need to use it .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever This is the first riding lawnmower I have owned and it's great. It only took about half an hour to get the hang of it but since I have a couple of acres, the learning curve was minor. My grandpa worked at John Deere years ago and always owned John Deere tractors, so I was pretty set on the brand. The lawnmower was assembled, delivered to my home, and included hands on instruction. Very satisfied. I'm a 71 year old lady and it's perfect for me.

I am 62 years old , and this is the first time I enjoyed mowing the grass. I felt like I was at an amusement park. The handling was incredible. The speed I was able to cut my 2 acres was mind-blowing. I've only done three cuts so far. I use the mower to cut a thick south Florida lawn, (1.5 acres) weekly. Comparing this Deere to the Toro thus far I'd say the overall quality of the Deere is a little better, but that could be because the Deere is brand new and the Toro is five years old so I've forgotten how the Toro was brand new. Pros; Back tires are wider apart than the Toro, gives it more stability, plus they have deeper tread and are a little wider, (less slipping - burn marks). Quick start Briggs motor has 22 hp, same as the Toro's Kawaski 22 hp, so it easily man handles the thick grass that is 6" to 8" tall. On the Toro, you have to use the choke to cold start the engine, which has given me some issues in the past. The Deere, you turn the key and it starts. The wide chute on the Deere throws the grass clippings 10', no clogging like the Toro with a smaller chute. Cons; emergency brake, have to put it up/down manually vs the Toro where it was automatic. Overall, I'd recommend this tractor.
