This mower was delivered by our local JOHN DEERE representative fully assembled, with gas & oil ready to go. He reviewed all the safety features then started the unit and demonstrated all the functional features. In the past 20 years I have warned out two other mowers, I truly believe this mower will be pasted on to my next of kin. Great mower!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by TexasT Poor build quality, breaks Shockingly with ease
First and for most does not cut grass well... Folds a lot of it over and very little consistency.... Almost ALWAYS have to make a 2nd pass.
John Deere costumer support is non existent. If you have a problem expect DAYS for a call back about an issue.
My mower was taken out by a small simple piece of mulch. A small stick got on top of my deck and get into the belt system. This is something a simple brush guard or protection plate would have protected. This is not a well built mower and is VERY fragile. Expect a lot of down time for stupid stuff and expect to mow more than once to get it done right.
I used to buy everything deere. Now I tell my friends and family to purchase anything except deere. The quality just isn't their and they just don't stand behind them like they used to...

The machine that i received is not the one that I ordered. The one that I recieved was for CaIifornia only & I live in Rush ,NY . I used it once & had to send it back for almost $500. in repairs. Although the warranty covered everything I lost the use of the mower for 5 days.Hard to believe that a brand new machine would need major repairs .

Have owned for several years with great reliability. Need to install mower deck baffles to prevent grass and debri from blowing into your lap. Would also recomend front deck roller.

I love the machine, plenty of power for the 54 inch deck, deck is heavy duty so if you bump into something you will be safe. I'm not sure where several people are complaining about bumpy ride, my seat makes it super nice, it's not meant for a plowed field. As for branches, generally you do a quick walk around to pick them up. You can connect a small trailer if needed. Easy access for cleaning around the belt. Overall this is a great machine!! I love it.

We purchased this ZTR in July 2014 to replace a similar sized competitive brand ZTR which we liked a lot but the local dealers were unwilling to honor the warranty when an electrical issue arose well within the coverage period.
We cannot be happier with the trade! My wife and daughter were allowed to test drive the machine at the dealership and were immediately stricken with the difference in power, speed and handling. Even with a couple fewer horsepower rating on the engine there is much more actual power that is available to turn the blades and pump the hydro motors. This machine can move right along and has the power to keep the blades cutting even in tall, wet grass. The deep 'Edge' mower deck allows easy, unrestricted flow through of cut grass that never seems to bunch up and clog or cause uneven or incomplete cutting of grass. The operator platform and seat sit higher up as well making visibility around the machine much greater and the tires are larger which translates into a smoother ride and more even cutting as well as better flotation in soft or muddy conditions. Cleanup and maintenance are easy, especially with the flip-up foot rest where you can access the top of the mower deck to grease spindles and clean away clippings and debris.
We mow 3 acres with a couple hundred trees of various size to maneuver around and we also have a compact utility tractor with a 72" finish mower to cut the larger open areas. The Z425 is often done with its close quarter tree trimming duties and helping out the CUT with the wide open spaces before all is done.
The only negative we have encountered is the engine is noisier than the Kawasaki on the "other brand" but given all the other positives, we are more than willing to have a little extra noise.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JR5acres Best mower I have ever owned
I got my Z425 with a 54 inch deck in 2010 and it was one of the best investments I have made. I mow 5+ acres a week, some of it flat and some of it with hills and very stable! I feel very safe using this mower. I have owned many brands and so far this is the best. I have had no problems with the mower. I keep up maintenance and keep everything greased and oiled and nothing has failed yet. This mower cut my mow time in half which was huge savings for me. I don't use a bagger for my mower, instead I use a lawn sweeper when needed. I would recommend this mower to anyone and I have.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jonathan Replaced a few parts already
Can cut right next to things with the left edge
Gets into surprisingly tight spaces
very bumpy ride
seems to always cut a little unevenly
After first year began to get tricky to start
started to get a weird "knocking" noise
1 month out of warranty pulley on cutting deck blew out the bearings
It cuts fast. I do my 1 acre lawn in just under an hour. I enjoy driving it. It's like riding a little go cart around the yard. I expected it to be a bumpy ride because I'm driving on my lawn, but a little suspension would be nice. I use the cart quite a bit to move fire wood and I've drug mountains of cut limbs to the fire pit using a rope and the trailer hitch. This machine is definitely not under-powered.
I am disappointed in the tricky start. Gotta get the throttle just right to start it. I'm a little disappointed that I'm already replacing parts. By the way the "knocking noise" was the pulley going bad. Now that I've replaced it the knocking seems to be gone. When I told the dealer about the noise while it was still under warranty they said they couldn't hear what I was talking about. When the pulley finally blew up it destroyed the belt too. over all just over $100 in parts at 1 month out of warranty. I do like my mower, but I can't say I would recommend it unless you just really like green and yellow.
