Customer Questions & Answers

Do these come in 144" or can two 72" pieces be put together (and still work well?)?

Do these come in 144" or can two 72" pieces be put together (and still work well?)?
Asked by: Sally
It comes in two 72" pieces. You could probably make a longer track work by abutting them but it wouldn't be ideal. The doors would probably have a jarring bump when you went over the joint, especially if you didn't line them up absolutely perfectly. I'd only suggest this if you had no other viable options and felt sure that you could line them up perfectly. Maybe you could smooth the joint with silicone or something.

Can the track be cut. Looking to use but only have a 70 inch opening.

Asked by: Tom
I had to trim my track and I used a 41/2 grinder. Very easy.

Will this (or the 96") work for 3 doors? This will be 2 doors on one track and one on the other?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Jenny
No: This track kit is designed for two doors and only comes with enough hardware for two doors. Three door track kits are available if that is the look that you desire.

Can the track be cut down to the exact size needed?

Will the track still function if it is cut down to a desired length less than 72 in?
Asked by: Kevin
Yes. I needed 69 inches. I don't have a great metal cutting setup (e.g. mitre saw with metal blade) so I used a dremel to score a line and then cut through with a hacksaw. Smoothed the edge a bit with the dremel again. But you could do the whole thing with a hacksaw if that's all you had. When finished make sure you blow out all metal dust from the track, e.g. with compressed air if possible, so that it doesn't end up in the wheels.

On this order the box looked like it had come open during shipment and taped shut with metal parts sticking out of the box. I decided to see if all parts were there and they were. That aside these are high quality products, smoothly holding my very heavy doors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I used this rail set to convert a difficult to use "sliding on the ground" bypass closet door to ... I used this rail set to convert a difficult to use "sliding on the ground" bypass closet door to a hanging setup. Two big heavy wooden doors each about 4'x6'. I was extremely happy with the results. The quality of the track and wheels is superb. The track is very solid and sturdy yet extremely lightweight. The action of the wheels is smooth and quiet. About the only "issue" I had, if you can call it that, is that the sliding action is so nearly frictionless that the tracks need to be *perfectly* level or the doors will slowly drift to one side! That's the cost for having such smooth action. From measuring I could see that my header was quite off-level -- this is a very old house -- so I cut a series of shims that I placed at each screw hole in the track, from just a sliver to about 1/2 inch for the final hole. In other words I had to make up about 1/2 inch over the full 72 inches. With the shims in place the tracks seemed very close to level from my measurements but after hanging the doors I would see them gradually drift to one side. I took the doors off, which is very easy to do, unscrewed the track to readjust the shims (a big pain) and then put everything back on. At that point I had it absolutely perfectly level and the doors didn't drift after letting go. In the end it was worth the effort as the closet is 100x easier to use now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very high quality product. Roller run really smoothly. Product is very sturdy. My doors weigh 65lbs each so had to go with this more expensive system. Very pleased we did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good move to go with Johnson After installing a pocket door with Johnson hardware for our daughter, I was impressed enough to go for this light commercial product for her 6' closet sliding doors. Their instructions are very thorough even though written for pros. They even have online videos for pocket door installs. We used 5 panel hollow core 36" (1-3/8" thick) doors. Setting the tracks in was easy by taping cedar shims between the rails to set the prescribed (for 1-3/8" doors) 1/2" gap, then screwing them up together. This should be a much better looking and working installation than the formed steel hanger systems. The tricycle rollers are much smoother working, and can't jump the tracks. The only draw-back is that getting the door onto the hangers is a bit of a hassle. It is really a two-person job for most of the installation (same for the pocket door).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! Great quality! Very smooth rolling, with little effort, and no chance the doors will jump the track. I used this product in an unusual way, to install 8 louvered bifold doors as bypass doors on a 12-ft. wall with 10-ft. sliding glass doors, so purchased two of these. First, I braced two doors together top and bottom, and installed a roller receiver 2" from each edge, ending up with 4 door panels. I cut the outer end of all tracks to make them 2 in. shorter than my opening on both sides before installation. Reason: If something happens to a roller in the future and it needs to be replaced (though I seriously doubt it, based on the quality), after disengaging the door, the roller could be removed from the track and a new roller inserted, without having to remove the track to gain access to the roller. Ability to adjust the rollers is a tremendous plus, and my sliding doors are gorgeous!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bypass sliding door hardware Excellent product! Very well made IN THE USA! I looked at several competing hardware kits in other stores and found the others cheaply made and flimsy. This is a superior product, but it is expensive. The cost is worth it because you should only have to by this hardware once. You could buy something cheaper, but most likely you will be replacing it within a couple of years or sooner. Installation instructions are very detailed and easy to follow.
