Product Overview

The Johnson Hardware 1500 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 36 in. x 80 in. is an easily assembled, premium quality commercial/residential kit for installing a pocket door into a wall. Pocket doors do not need "swing" room, saving valuable floor space while still assuring the full privacy of a standard door. The frame is structurally strong and perfect for the builder or do-it-yourselfer. The kit components are all of the highest quality and durability which is why we can offer a lifetime warranty.

  • Smooth rolling, balanced three wheel tricycle hangers ensure that all wheels carry weight evenly for the smoothest operation
  • A flip of a clip separates hangers from doors for easy door installation and removal
  • Precision extruded box track is made of heavy-walled aluminum and guarantees that your door will not jump track
  • Convex rails on box track trap dirt for free rolling
  • Wood split jamb and wood stud uprights have full steel sides and backs to provide maximum rigidity for wall materials and restricts nails from penetration into pocket
  • Self-adjusting floor anchors allow for settling of floor without disturbing horizontal alignment of header and track
  • In addition to the frame, track, and hangers, kit also includes door guide, adjustment wrench, and door bumper
  • For door thicknesses of 1 in. to 1-3/8 in. (1-3/4 in. door adaptor kit available)
  • For door widths up to 36 in.
  • For door heights up to 80 in.
  • For door weights of up to 200 lbs.
  • Johnson Hardware offers a true lifetime warranty and will replace any item found defective in material or workmanship regardless of its date of purchase

can the height be cut down to take a 78 inch door?

can the height be cut down to take a 78 inch door?
Asked by: gazoo
I don't know why not. Each of the steel clad vertical supports would require cutting and holes at the end which was cut would have to be duplicated. And finally, you need to warn all your friends over 6' 6" to duck. ;>)

Can this door fit a 2x3 wall ?

Asked by: chris
Unfortunately, you can't put a pocket door in a wall any thinner than 2x4. You might be able to get a wall-mount system to work with your 2x3 wall, though. You just need the wall space on one side to slide your door against.

1500 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 36 in. x 80 in. is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pocket door Shipped fast. Product ok. Never installed pocket door before so don't know of any other systems. Very soft wood. Predrill and still expect cracks? Like the hardware. Would never of installed pocket door if not for wife nagging. Short wall so added angle iron to screw plywood first then sheet rock over top because don't trust flimsy vertices support rails. Don't like the bottom guide. Used solid door and cut groove length of door and installed a pin in floor. Very expensive door in the end. Better to buy some of the hardware and make the rest or get a divorce. Lol

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Floppy Studs My contractor installed this pocket door between a bedroom and a bathroom. Even with oak moldings and 5/8" Sheetrock on one side and 5/8" cement board on the other side, the walls are unacceptably floppy. The bathroom side is obviously tiled. If a heavy person leans on the wall the tile may just pop off. The cement board side gives about 1/16-1/8" and the Sheetrock side gives even more. It's like a nightmare. Once the kit is in the wall, the specs available on Johnson's site are so poor that it's impossible to see what size exactly any of the components are. I ordered steel rods from another vendor to sister the floppy studs, but figuring out the exact size to order was a guessing game. All in all, I believe the quality of the split studs is so poor that this door kit is not viable. Johnson or Home Depot ought to warn you not to buy the product unless you like feeling like you live in a Tupperware container.

I expected the steel cladding around the included vertical studs to be stronger. Drywall screws driven by a power screw gun can penetrate the cladding enabling those screws to scratch the door. I recommend using 1 inch screws on those studs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very detailed and helpful instuctions Assembly and installation was a breeze thanks to the detailed instructions that came with the product. Johnson Hardware's website also has an excellent video to help you. The rollers and track are top quality on this door. Structurally it seems quite adequate although nailing the trim must be done carefully so as to not nail into the metal split studs. I used 6" x 1" trim screws instead of nails in the casing instead of nailing. All-in-all, a very good purchase.
