Product Overview

The Johnson Hardware 1500 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 36 in. x 80 in. is an easily assembled, premium quality commercial/residential kit for installing a pocket door into a wall. Pocket doors do not need "swing" room, saving valuable floor space while still assuring the full privacy of a standard door. The frame is structurally strong and perfect for the builder or do-it-yourselfer. The kit components are all of the highest quality and durability which is why we can offer a lifetime warranty.

  • Smooth rolling, balanced three wheel tricycle hangers ensure that all wheels carry weight evenly for the smoothest operation
  • A flip of a clip separates hangers from doors for easy door installation and removal
  • Precision extruded box track is made of heavy-walled aluminum and guarantees that your door will not jump track
  • Convex rails on box track trap dirt for free rolling
  • Wood split jamb and wood stud uprights have full steel sides and backs to provide maximum rigidity for wall materials and restricts nails from penetration into pocket
  • Self-adjusting floor anchors allow for settling of floor without disturbing horizontal alignment of header and track
  • In addition to the frame, track, and hangers, kit also includes door guide, adjustment wrench, and door bumper
  • For door thicknesses of 1 in. to 1-3/8 in. (1-3/4 in. door adaptor kit available)
  • For door widths up to 36 in.
  • For door heights up to 80 in.
  • For door weights of up to 200 lbs.
  • Johnson Hardware offers a true lifetime warranty and will replace any item found defective in material or workmanship regardless of its date of purchase

Answer:
The Johnson Hardware site shows a 30 and a 36 inch kit. The 36 inch kit can be cut for use on 34 inch doors. The instructions show how to make that modification. The "Cut down" instructions can be downloaded from URL http://www.johnsonhardware.com/images/Install/PD/INCUTDGN.pdf.

Will be gutting my 5x8 bathroom in a 1940's house. Want to change my swing door to a pocket door. Can get access from one side. 2x4 construction, 80 x 28 x1 3/8 door. Want to use existing door to maintain match though the house. What things do I need to look for and what measurements do I need to make to ensure that this will work? Are there better options for my situation?

Answer:
The pocket door frame will be twice as wide, plus a couple of inches. The pocket door is also less sound resistant because it fits loosely around the door itself. I suggest you watch the videos at http://www.johnsonhardware.com/video.htm.
I believe you will need access to both sides of the wall.

Daniel,
You'll need to make a whole new rough opening to accommodate the pocket door frame. The rough opening with a 80" x 28" door would be 84-1/2" x 57". I would think you would need access from both sides of the wall. I have seen people leave the drywall up on one side, but that can be tricky. If that isn't a viable option, you may want to look into a wall-mounted(barndoor) type application. We Read More

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Designed well. Easy to install. Home Depot has it priced well. I expected the steel cladding around the included vertical studs to be stronger. Drywall screws driven by a power screw gun can penetrate the cladding enabling those screws to scratch the door. I recommend using 1 inch screws on those studs. October 26, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nice product ... a little difficult to install on slab floor this is my second install .. first one worked out so well and is a great space saver... this is an awesome door frame a lil' tricky to install, but the door glides so easily... would be nicer to have a larger mounting surface at the bottom but overall i'm satisfied with this product April 26, 2016
