Product Overview

The Johnson Hardware 1500 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 48 in. x 80 in. is an easily assembled, premium quality commercial/residential kit for installing a pocket door into a wall. Pocket doors do not need "swing" room, saving valuable floor space while still assuring the full privacy of a standard door. Manufactured and designed, the frame is structurally strong and perfect for the builder or do-it-yourselfer. The kit components are all of the highest quality and durability which is why we can offer a lifetime warranty.

  • Smooth rolling, balanced three wheel tricycle hangers ensure that all wheels carry weight evenly for the smoothest operation
  • A flip of a clip separates hangers from doors for easy door installation and removal
  • Precision extruded box track is made of heavy-walled aluminum and guarantees that your door will not jump track
  • Convex rails on box track trap dirt for free rolling
  • Wood split jamb and wood stud uprights have full steel sides and backs to provide maximum rigidity for wall materials and restricts nails from penetration into pocket
  • Self-adjusting floor anchors allow for settling of floor without disturbing horizontal alignment of header and track
  • In addition to the frame, track, and hangers, kit also includes door guide, adjustment wrench and door bumper
  • For door thicknesses of 1 in. to 1-3/8 in. (1-3/4 in. door adaptor kit available)
  • For door widths up to 48 in.
  • For door heights up to 80 in.
  • For door weights of up to 200 lbs.
  • Johnson Hardware offers a true lifetime warranty and will replace any item found defective in material or workmanship regardless of its date of purchase

Says doors up to 48 in. Does that mean I can adjust it to 40? 42 is too wide

Asked by: Tburke0221
Yes, this frame can be cut down to accommodate 40" doors, but it will not be marked for cutting like some of the other sizes. If you have any questions when you are in the process of cutting it down, feel free to call us at 800-837-5664 to help you out.

We are doing a basement build out in a new home and want to install a pocket door between what will be the new bathroom and the utility room which holds the furnace and water heater. In reviewing our regulations it appears that we need to have a “gasketed door” for this installation. Is there any sort of gasket kit available for this pocket door?
Asked by: NeedsHelp
I am not very familiar with the precise procedure to gasket a pocket door, but you could check with a company like Pemko. They specialize in thresholds and gaskets for doors.

Can I get a 90 x 36 pocket door kit?

Asked by: MarMar
If you want a pocket door frame for a 36" wide by 90" tall door, you would just order a 153080PF, and cut down each of the uprights by 6". Just be certain that you cut down the bottom of the upright, not the top. The top uprights have oblong holes in them so that you don't have to nail or screw through the metal to attach them to the pocket door header.

Customer Reviews

1500 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 48 in. x 80 in. is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent product if you want to save a little time. We ended up installing the pocket door frame while using some of the existing studs on one side of the wall, so as to provide extra support for the header, and to not have to demo more of an existing wall. If I had it to do over again, I'd just buy the metal top guide rail and rollers, save $150 and call it a day. If you're starting with a totally new build, the metal reinforced split studs are a helpful design to help support heavy doors. We had 2 doors that were 150lbs each and 51.5" wide, so the header and rough opening were about 16'. Their materials seem to err on the side of lightweight, but they must have their engineering down, as it all rolls nicely and supports the weight well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install with great product flexibility Very satisfied with the product quality and easy of install. Installed two 1500 series door frames for two 3'-6" wide doors. Installed one frame right after the other. The first took 45 minutes including cutting of frame. Second took 30 minutes including cutting of frame. Then installed another 1500 series out of box standard size and the install took less than 10 minutes. The split studs are reasonably strong. They flex less than other comparable 1 x 4 options and it is more difficult to screw all the way through the split studs when installing drywall because of the metal casing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pocket door hardware After researching pocket door hardware online, it looked like most of the experienced builder blogs were using hardware similar to this. I ordered the Johnson Hardware 1500 and a special-order door to fit our custom 44" opening. I love the fact that it is made in the USA with excellent instructions as well as videos online at their website. The design is very well thought out, easy to trim down to size, and easy to install. I expect to have many years of good performance out of the door/hardware.
