door width

Can I use this for a 60" wide door? The Johnson site says that it can be used up to 60". The Home Depot site says 36". I need it for a door that is 60" wide and 42" high.
Asked by: rob
This particular frame is for doors up to 36" wide by 80" tall for a 2x6 stud wall. If you need one for a 60" door that is 42" high, you would want to order the 15605068. You would just need to cut 38" off of each upright to accommodate the 42" high door. Make sure you cut off of the bottom of the uprights and not from the top that has oblong holes in the steel. Those holes make it so you don't have to screw or nail through steel to attach the uprights to the header. Unfortunately, homedepot.com doesn't offer the 15605068.

Customer Reviews

1560 Series Pocket Door Frame for Doors up to 36 in. x 80 in. is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 X 6 Pocket Door Hardware Kit The Johnson Hardware pocket door kit is high quality hardware with poor quality wood. Mine had splits & broken wood in the top section & lots of knots in the vertical members. For the price (double in some others I looked at) my expectations were not met. I would have returned it but was in a time crunch on our kitchen total tearout. I thought the instructions for cutting down for a smaller door & installation were fair, but not good enough for an average homeowner. I consider myself a highly experienced handyman home owner & I had to tead the instructions several times. In addition there was not a list of materials included in the "kit". The instructions give trim install directions & at first I thought I was missing pieces. Trim material is not included & hard to find as it is a split requirement. I made my own. For the price, I would recommend shopping.

I reinforced them on inner side of with 1x4's. still had plenty room for door to slide. When the Door opens and closes it tends to move from side to side. Should have some type of stabilization for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice frame The instructions could have been a little more detailed, but it turned out perfect. We had to trim the height and the length. Trimming the length is accounted for in the instructions, but not the height. The only issue with trimming the height was that there was only one end with holes in the metal for nails. Once we realized the both ends could accommodate the floor braces we were set. We are very happy with this frame and the one we installed in our 2x4 framed door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Office Complete We ordered this product to create my wife's office. The rough opening was less than 84 inches because of a load bearing header, so I had to trim the studs down. The Johnson Hardware folks were very helpful in instructing me how to trim the studs to the available height. My wife and I, who are neither of us carpenters, installed the frame in about an hour and a half, which included trimming it to size. I would definitely recommend this product.
