I tested this tool after three rainy days in the clay soil of central NJ. It was not effective for weed removal. Small weeds slipped between the fork blades. Large weeds were partially extracted with the ends of tap roots left in the ground despite my best efforts at careful removal. I wanted to like this elegant and well constructed tool, but it is not practical in clay soil.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MrFixIt Finally a perfect grubber!
In the days of competition and cheap hardware, it's refreshing to get your hands on some quality tools once in a while. This Joseph Bentley collection of garden tools is just that. Don't let the very basic look fool you! These are quality garden tools that are durable and well made. The handles are solid wood, dyed and imprinted. The metal of the tool itself is surprisingly excellent quality, with thick gauge stainless steel and strong welds. Nothing will be bending or breaking off of these. The tool head is strongly embedded into the handle giving it a solid feel with good balance due to the length of the handle. I have no fear that the head will separate from the handle any time soon.
The tips of the grubber are thick and round, not flat, ensuring that they will never bend. The absolute best part of this tool, however, is the round shield underneath. Usually, when you dig out a daisy or dandelion, the neck of the tool digs into the dirt, making removal not only harder, but damaging the look of the lawn in that area, especially in moist earth. The attached shield increases the surface area of grubber, eliminating the surrounding damage, and making extraction effortless. And throw in a lifetime guarantee, taken care of, these tools will last you for many, many years to come. Color me impressed!
Well made with thick steel and a solid wood handle. Good balance and great quality, despite being manufactured in China. An excellent tool all around.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MaureenK Great design
This is not your ordinary weed digger. Not only is the quality top notch with the stainless steel and beautifully crafted wooden handle, but the smooth action of the fulcrum and sharp points reduces fatigue. Dandelions are already springing up all over my yard-- I've already pulled a dozen or so. This is just about the best tool I've found to get rid of those pesky weeds. The tool is comfortable in the hand and will probably outlive me, as it feels indestructible!

Not quite sure why you’d want to “grub” a daisy, but this is the tool I’ve been looking for to get at the roots of nasty nut-grass and weeds! I’ll no longer need to use the back-side of my hand shovel to get additional leverage- just dig-in and lean back. Clever design.
My old dandelion picker disappeared this summer and this is a definite upgrade with its sharp teeth, stainless steel shaft, solid oak handle, leather hanging loop, and guarantee (just wish they’d guarantee against loss!)

It never fails that every year I need to replace various gardening tool due to breakage or loss. Actually I probably loose tools that make me frustrated or struggle, but this is a tool that is durable and easy to use. It also comes with a guarantee, is made in the USA and has no plastic. It steel is well forged and instructions are even included for storage. This is a tool I will protect, maintain and utilize until I can no longer bend drown to the ground, kneel and get up again on my own.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Salex Best hand weeder I've ever used
This is by far the most effective weeder I've ever used. It's great at getting after deep tap-rooted weeds like bindweed, mallow, dandelion, and lots of other nasty weeds. The design is really easy to use - you just push the tip a few inches into the soil and then push back on the handle. The big metal "wing" on the back provides leverage to pull taproots with the tip. I've seen a lot of weeders that use this design, but I really like the following features of this particular grubber: it has a 15-year guarantee, it's a bit longer than most others, the welds seem stronger, the tines are very sharp (and well protected in good shipping materials), and its wood handle and leather strap are just beautiful.
After years of digging out weeds with a notched-end trowel, I wish I would have tried one of these sooner - it saves time and effort in the garden.
