Answer:
Hello, Tinting is not recommended for stainblocking
applications. KILZ COMPLETE primer may be tinted with up to 2 ounces of universal colorant per gallon for non-stainblocking projects. Tinting to a lighter shade than the
topcoat is recommended. If you have additional questions, please contact us directly at ask@kilz.com. Thanks!

Is either the oil-based or the water-based version of Killz acceptable for outdoor use as a primer for wood?

This question is from 1-Qt. White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker

I have a pressure treated 4x4 post over 10-years old that has never been sealed, stained or painted. I will be reusing it for a replacement mailbox post and would like to paint it. I gave it the "sprinkle test" and the wood absorbed the water. I plan to use KILLZ water-based primer and then cover with an acrylic-latex paint. Two feet of the bottom of the post will be buried in the ground. Would there be any issues with this?

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend a primer for this particular project since we can't equate performance below grade to above grade. We would expect it to degrade considerably faster as it's in direct contact with either cement or soil.
The best choice would be to use a registered wood preservative underground.

Will this block cat urine odor on the floor under my carpet?

This question is from 1-Qt. White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker
Asked by

November 15, 2015
I was told to use this to deal with the areas on my floor under the carpet where my cat recently started occasionally going out of the box.
I don't know if the black spots are from that, my excessive treatment of her urination, or both.
Because I know how hard it is to get rid of urine smells, I need to know before I use it.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. For blocking/sealing pet odors, we recommend our best stain and odor blocker in a water base - KILZ MAX. However if you prefer to use an oil-base primer, KILZ Complete will also effectively block the urine odor. Please ensure you follow application instructions and allow primer to fully dry before topcoating or covering up.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good at covering water stains on a ceiling We are getting a mid 1970's mobile home ready for sale and had to cover the water stains on the ceiling from leaks that have been fixed. The ceiling had never been painted so the stains needed two coats of the oil based Kilz to cover the stains. This did not surprise me as the first coat of primer was sucked right into the ceiling. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good for another 50 years! I was able to restore and protect my much neglected attic Windows with the help of this great paint! Easy to use, great coverage and finish but most importantly a saving of $900 over replacement windows! December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Yes!! I tried a few different primers by a couple brands to get rid of stains on my kitchen ceiling, to no avail. I had even tried other Kilz products before reading about this one. It seemed to have good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. Nothing else seemed to be working and this was going to be my last ditch effort. The others had been water-based, so I figured I'd try the oil-based before calling it quits. At first I thought this one had failed me like the others. After rolling it onto my ceiling the stains showed right through. They stains were less apparent than with the other products, but they were still there. I was disappointed and figured I would just have to deal with the stains, but the next day they were not visible. Unlike the other products I'd used previously, once this product dried the stains were no longer noticeable. I would recommend this product for stubborn stains. January 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Great product. dries fast, covers very well, solid primer I am very pleased. January 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Working good on my out door garage decor, also from HD. I needed oil based paint to touch up some outdoor spots that are subjected to rain. Like the white color, may not even need to add another coat, as this is nice. February 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bad stain coverage had bad water stains from a leak in my roof ... tried the non-oil kilz but it didn't work. Got this and waited a few days to dry before painting over it, and the stain is definitely blocked in... no bleed throughs this time. August 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best product for its use. Will purchase, if needed, in the future It rolls on easily and dries quickly, good coverage July 28, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good value A good value. Covers and seals raw wood and repair materials well. Dries quickly and sands well. Only misgiving I have is with brushmarks after product dries. Probably due to the quick dry time. Maybe adding floetrol to adjust the dry time would help.. July 22, 2015
