The paint easily applied to a seating area that I built from old pallets. The seating would be stationary outdoors which is why i needed this product. The coverage over the untreated wood was perfect. It has rained on the finished product several times now and the sealer is working very well. Even the oil base paint washed off my hands easily with a gently soap scrub.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kay Best primer to do the job right the first time!
Excellent primer! It seals and covers well. Painting in shade on sunny day and it dries quickly. I also primed over black facia boards and it covers well! I don't buy any other primer, just Kilz.

while kilz is a great product, the oil base has a very strong smell, I knew that ahead of time, it has been quite a few years since I have used oil base indoors, but per Home-Depot recommendation I purchased anyway , it was suggested this as best product for o s b board, after 5 days the smell is finally dissipating , hope it holds up over time.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by HamiltonFan Coverage fell short
I bought 1 gallon of Kilz Complete to paint pressure-treated plywood for an exterior application. I had left the pressure-treated plywood project unpainted for several weeks to allow it to become dry enough to absorb paint. The Kilz specifications state that it covers 300 - 400 sq ft. I only needed 215 sq ft of coverage, so bought 1 gallon. Unfortunately, it only covered about 150 sq ft...one half of the minimum 300 sq ft specified on the label! I bought another brand to finish the priming, and it seemed to cover at about the same rate, so perhaps my project was exceptional. I assume that a standard indoor project would deliver better coverage. I was very disappointed to have to stop in the middle of a messy project to drive to a store for another can of primer.

I bought this product to try and eliminate odor in a home we purchased at an auction. The prior owners left their dogs unattended in the basement and the smell was horrible. We tried pressure washing the walls and floors, we also hand scrubbed them using everything from bleach to vinegar and even expensive odor removers and nothing worked.... As a last resort I purchased 5 gallons of Kilz complete and applied it to the basement walls and floor and after just one coat the smell was gone!!! Great product to use if looking for an odor blocker!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terry great stain cover up
On my garage white concrete walls I had mildew stains that I sprayed with bleach but were still showing stains. So I brush painted on the KILZ paint and it covered the stain completely and even matched the white paint that was not stained. It worked great.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christian Better than Sherwin-Williams High end exterior alkyd primers
Hands-down one of the best oil based primers I have used in every category except ease of use/application (even in this category it still did much better than many comparable primers).
I used it to prime rough-cut Cedar slats on an intricate fence, wrought iron railing's, aluminum windows , rusted steel brackets, galvanized corner flashing. The adhesion is top rate, it's stain blocking is simply amazing, it's look when dried has been mistaken for a top coat, it will bridge uneven surfaces and help minimize the unwanted gaps and small errors. For its price it can't be beat as an all-around great primer.
Addressing the application issues: this stuff becomes thick very quickly so you won't get the amount of coverage you normally expect from a gallon and in warmer weather's back rolling is like trying to roll Elmers glue. However if you can overcome this characteristic of the primer, you will be left with a great surface for applying your top coat.
In addition I've never had any problems with other manufacturers paint over this or bad reactions when applying this. I have five years of full-time experience with four out of five of them spent on exterior work for the months of May - Sept.
**Tips SHAKE/BLEND VERY WELL then scrape bottom with stir stick then blend again (quick). Keep covered when not using your brush/roller or in high temps and use a slightly smaller pail to reduce the surface area of primer (help slow solvent evaporation).
