Keep in mind that seams will still show, along with any bubbles, rips, or tears in the paper. More so with a light or white colored paint. From experience in two homes with wallpaper that previous owners had painted over, I would not recommend doing it. The moisture from the wet paint can cause the paper to bubble. It will take the paint and primer longer to dry, too. Painting over it is easier than removal, of course, just wanted you to know some of the pitfalls first.

Answer:
When painting over wallpaper, it is better to use an oil base primer. The water base latex can cause the paper to lift.

I would not recommend that application. Yes, it would work however as it dries, it may create a bubbling of the paper underneath where the paper glue is not holding well. Answer:
you need to use an oil based primer, not a water based, to help keep the adhesive of the wall paper sealed from the moisture of latex (water based) paint. Otherwise you run the risk of moisture loosing the adhesive.

I don't think so. Call the store to verify. Kilz May have an oil-based version. I've only used the latex version on interior walls and trim.

Hi JP this will work, however I prefer to use an oil based primer if it is permitted to use in your area. Both will seal the wood, I just like the protection oil base primers provide.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great prep step This product allowed me to transition old purple walls with new construction seamlessly. I highly recommend this product cause plain and simple it just works. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Covers very well. It even looks good by itself without the cover coat. I used this primer to cover bare wood and weathered/scraped old surfaces where the bare wood now shows through. The primer covered really well. I almost didn't need to apply the final exterior white gloss paint. It significantly reduced the amount of the final finish coat that I needed to apply. So far, I am pleased with the product. Hopefully, it will hold up over the years. I don't mind paying extra for a high-quality paint that will reduce re-painting in the future. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kilz First time really painting so I'm not sure how well it's supposed to work. There is definitely bleed through from the color I'm painting underneath but my walls are not smooth. All I know is that this stuff is a pain to get off your skin and a pain to get off hard wood flooring when you don't put the lid all the way on and it tips over and half the gallon spills on the ground. But I think it works better then just paint alone. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product! Goes on smoothly and covers well. Easy cleanup too. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't believe it but you actually have to prime fresh sheet rock! Seriously, this is a good product at a good price. The fresh rock soaked it right up and barely needed a second coat. This has also been used in a bathroom where mold was persistent and two coats of this and a fresh coat of paint and the mold/mildew has yet to return. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kilz I use this paint often for covering spots that show up on ceilings or walls it has good coverage & keeps the spot from coming thru after painting. August 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellant Coverage I like this product a lo, it covers all services, easy to use. Worth the value. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works!!! 2 coats covered a very ugly red paint without any bleed-thru. March 15, 2016
