Questions & Answers

Will this help cover slight imperfections in sheetrock like small cracks?

Asked by: Frank
Paints and primers are not intended to cover cracks. If you do, the fix is usually only temporary. Over time, the cracks will reopen. It is always best to use spackle / drywall compound to fix cracks in sheetrock. It doesn't take much time and the fix is more permanent.

Can this be used to cover up marker?
Asked by: Nikki
Although I have never used Kilz for that, I would certainly give it try. You might try checking with the manufacturer, specific to your question.

Not sure if this is truly okay to use for exterior primer

Although the title says Interior/exterior, the Product Overview only says "Use on interior surfaces". Is it okay to use on exterior entry doors?
Asked by: SDCaz
Can says interior/exterior. I painted it on the facia board of a rental property and followed it with exterior latex final coat.

Can I use this paint on the bare concrete walls of a cold storage room?

Asked by: Lynn
Hi, Lynn. We do not recommend using any of our products in a colder setting. The temperature could cause the product to potentially fail. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail us at techservice@masterchem.com and we'll help you out. Hope this helps - Vince

1-gal. White Water-Based Latex Interior/Exterior Multi-Surface Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 872.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This primer continues to peel off of my drywall. It won't stick! I am now dealing with a huge repair job!! I have been painting houses for over 12 years. I just used KILZ 2 for the first time and it is peeling away from my drywall. It will not adhere. I just primed and painted my entire house, and it is peeling away!! I cannot believe how much repair work I am up against now!! This is the primer that the paint store recommended and I will never use KILZ 2 again! Total waste of money, not to mention the time put in to repair after all the time I spent prepping, priming and painting.....Just to start over!! I could seriously cry right now!! I would not recommend this product to anyone!

Mostly for covering strong colors already on the wall with a lighter shade. For that application, it takes two or three coats over stripes or designs, but only one, maybe two for single dark shade. It's best use if for covering glossy with flat. Just a reasonable sanding and a coat of Kilz will let the matte paint adhere really well over former glossy surfaces. Kilz is easy to clean up with water. If you must use a primer, I've always used Kilz.

I was covering a dark color with a less dark color and assumed the primer would help, as it was i needed three finish coats to get solid results. could be the colors, could be the primer. unfortunately no way to tell if it was the covering ability of the so called " paint with primer " finish paint i used or the primers ability to cover the old color completely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from #1 pick over any other Primer I am new to painting. I decided to start a new project in my home. I was able to get some advice through my local hardware store, and they recommended Kilz for my bathroom project. It was easy and did not ruin my first DIY project. I will continue to use Kilz throughout the rest of my DIY years. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Kilz2 is a fine latex-based prime for indoor and outdoor use. I've learned the hard way that all of the modern paints on the market that claim to be paint and primer and one really don't cut it for large color changes (light to dark or vice versa). As Kilz is about half the price of most good quality top coat paints it makes sense to hit your project with a coat of Kilz before top coating.

We had issues on the exterior surface of our fascia board(s). Aft er prepara tion and treatment, we applied the KILZ 2 Latex and after only one coat, the stains did not show through. We then painted after a day (still no stains) and it has been over two weeks and no stains showing through.

I bought the first 2 buckets from a Home Depot East of my house, the Kilz worked great. I bought a third from a Home Depot from west of my house and it was thick, almost as thick as pudding. I specially asked the paint department to give my can a shake. Product is good, but some paint departments are not.

After removing wall paper and cleaning the walls of glue residue, I patched small dings in the walls and then covered the walls with two coats of Kilz2 latex primer. I lightly sanded between coats and then painted the walls. The Kilz2 did a perfect job of sealing the sheet rock for the paint.
