Answer:
Hello Virginia,
Thanks for your interest in Kilz primers. Yes and yes--this primer is great for sealing odors from smoke, and after it's applied would come an oil- or latex paint topcoat. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes!

Answer:
Hi Virginia,
Wash down the walls first with TSP, then use the kilz primer and a good paint such as Behr Ultra.
Why are you having to do this? Your landlord should be painting the apartment for you at his expense.

How many square feet of coverage can you get with the Kilz oil-based original sealer, primer, and stain blocker? Either 1 or 5 gallons, assuming a clean drywall surface? Thank you/

Answer:
Hello, On average, a gallon will cover approximately 300 - 400 sq. ft. on a clean drywall surface. If it's new drywall, it will be more porous and possibly require more coats. If you have additional questions, please contact us directly at ask@kilz.com. Thanks!

Answer:
Hello SanPedroCustomer!
Each gallon covers up to 300 square feet, so this 5 gallon will cover up to 1500 square feet. If your drywall is porous, you will get less square footage per gallon.

5-gal. Oil-Based White Original Sealer, Primer and Stain Blocker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 270.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helps get you through "empty nest syndrome"... We never expected our adult child to move back home, but when she left the second time, with her two cats, she left quite the mess. After ripping up the carpets, we discovered a whole world of stink! Since replacing the wood was out of our budget, I resorted to painting the base with Kilz before adding the new flooring, and the room has been smell free since! Easy to apply and completely blocked the odors. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product saved us thou$and$!! This past spring, we bought a house that has one inch thick white oak floors throughout. The old lady who lived here hadn't let her dogs outside for decades. With the humidity and heat of warm weather, the pet stains were seeping up like tar and the stench was unbearable. The floors were almost solid black! Neighbors could smell the house from the sidewalk. We used 2 coats of Kilz Original oil based primer to seal the wood floors before laying vinyl plank flooring over it. There's no odor evidence of the years of damage either! Replacing the wood floors would have cost thousands of dollars. I wish I could attach pictures so you could see the before and after! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

KILLZ IT!!!! Interior or exterior. This is the product this professional has used. 15 years. It doesn't fail. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covering old wood paneling Our old home came complete with wood paneling and all the smells you would expect after enduring 36 years of chain-smoking. We wanted to preserve the charm without keeping the smell of dated smokey wood. Original Kilz primer was exactly what we needed. It not only hid the stench, but it also hid all the wood grain and knots in the pine paneling. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get the job done We just bought our new home and instead of being excited and thrilled, I was so stressed and disgusted with the smell of the house. The previous owners had apparently numerous cats which they allowed to urinate just about anywhere and everywhere! So the house stunk! I did a research on the computer for a solution to get rid of the smell and not just cover it up with new carpet. People swore by KILZ original and so I had to try it, secretly I was crossing my fingers because I thought no way would we ever rid the smell and I'd probably have to live in the backyard! We ripped out the carpet, pulled nails and staples and padding. The smell was unbearable! I then cleaned the floors and we had to even replace some subfloors because no way they could be saved. I cleaned the floors with a clorox solution, sanded the floor and started painting the subfloors with Kilz. A month later and no smell! I'm SO GRATEFUL for Kilz and it really does WORK! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Used it about ten years ago and it worked great. It covered the mold and mildew. And it also prevented new mold and mildew from forming. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eliminates pet urine smell! Do you have a problem with pets that have urinated in your house, or have you bought a house that has a strong pet urine smell? You will quickly find that no matter what products you use to clean the carpets, you will not be able to get rid of that smell. Having gone through this at a number of homes, I have found the solution! You must remove the carpet and padding and use KILZ Original Primer, OIL-BASED to seal the under layment. It MUST be OIL-BASED KILZ! Nothing else will do the job that you need it to do. I have done this at a number of homes, and can guarantee that it removes the pet urine smell like nothing else will, except replacing the under layment itself. Kilz Original oil-based primer is easy to use, buy some cheap rollers with thick pile, and roll this stuff out. One coat may be enough, but just to be safe, I have always done a double coat. Be aware that because the primer is oil-based, it does have a strong smell when it is wet and freshly dry. The smell from the oil-based primer quickly dissipates. Once the primer is dry, lay down new padding and carpet, or do what I did and put down laminate wood flooring. Like me, you will forever be grateful for Kilz Original Oil-Based Primer!
