Answer:
Hello Jen,
Thanks for your question. No, while this product is great for covering new and bare drywall, it is not a standalone product like a paint would be. In other words, it needs to be topcoated soon after being applied or else it can have a tendency to break down. We recommend using water-based paints that are in a flat, flat enamel, or eggshell finish. Well wishes!

Answer:
Hello Jen,
Thanks for your question. This product is a primer and is not designed to be used as a topcoat, as it has different properties than a topcoat of paint does such as washability and overall durability.
Best wishes for your project!

Answer:
It can, but I don't think it should. It goes on thick so it would cover everything nicely in a flat white. Over time I don't think it would look as good as if you put another coat of higher gloss paint over it, but depending on your needs you could probably just use the PVA if its for a closet or basement or something like that.

Answer:
Yes this can be used as paint. I have painted several garages with just this. I would not recommend it as the finish coat for interior walls but it is perfect for a quick spray!

Hello Asking,
Thanks for your question. That's right--Kilz PVA Primer is only designed for new and bare drywall. Kilz 2 Latex Primer is a good alternative for when the walls have an existing coating.
Well wishes for your project!

This is not recommended to be applied over walls that are already painted. KILZ 2 Latex primer would be the product you need for your project.

Answer:
Hello and thanks for your inquiry. If the walls are already painted, then we recommend you use our KILZ 2 Latex (water-based) primer instead of the PVA. PVA is specially designed to seal new unpainted drywall.

I read through all the questions and answers above, in one spot it says it can not be topcoat end with a semi gloss paint and in another spot it says it can be topcoats with any sheen. Which is correct? Can I use a semi gloss paint over this primer? Thanks in advance

Answer:
Hello Painterm,
Great question! We only recommend topcoating this Kilz PVA primer with flat, flat enamel, or eggshell enamel finishes. Using a paint sheen higher than this, such as semi-gloss, could lead to performance issues. Best wishes!

Depends on the humidity temp and air flow in the room, but I only had to wait about 2 hours and I put this stuff on pretty thick.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Peels right off Thought this would help seal drywall and let me cover in 1 coat of paint, but caused a lot of extra work. It applied nice and dried fast. Appeared to seal very well until we painted it 2 days later. It just fell off the wall. Not sure if it was the paint we used on top,Sherwin Williams Ovation paint/primer in one, or an unknown factor. I've never had primer do this and thought Kilz was a good brand so I'm shocked. I won't be using it ever again though. Just keep applying 2 coats of paint. I'll be taking the rest back hoping to recoup some money. September 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality Primer This "high build" primer really isn't very thick. It did not do a good job of creating a uniform finish, even with a 3/4" nap roller (can still see differences in texture between drywall and mud). It also did not fill in a lot of blemishes and pinholes as expected. It was able to cover around 1200 square feet with one bucket. I will definitely use a higher quality high build primer next time as this primer is insufficient and a waste of money. September 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Must buy for covering new drywall In the process of refinishing our basement and a friend recommended I use this before the Behr goes on. It was pretty inexpensive so I went for it. I seriously could not be more pleased with the results. The paint went on easily and covered very well. It initially goes on gray which makes it easier to see any missed spots. It dries white, leaving you with the perfect base layer. Highly recommend this product, it seems like it let me use less of the color to go on top because it covered the drywall/mud so well. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Must prime instead of paint and primer in 1 I primed my whole upstairs with this primer...in the basement I went with a top of the line paint and primer in 1 instead of priming my new drywall. That was a mistake! I used the same paint upstairs and downstairs...1 coat of paint upstairs and can't see any joint compound through the paint. In the basement I'm working on my 3rd coat cause I can still see the joint compound. use this primer on all new drywall works good September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Product Bought this primer after reading rave reviews and very happy I did covered new drywall very well and almost looks good enough not even have to paint again would recommend to anyone very happy customer. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Quality Coat of Primer When building my home I looked around for a good drywall primer. After talking with others and testing a couple of cheap primers, nothing when on as great as PVA Primer. I shot it on straight out of the bucket using a 517 tip, no thinning, and it dried rather smooth with great coverage on new drywall. After dried I lightly sanded, hit very few thin spots, and that was all. This primer is the real deal. May 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product No odor at all! went on with a roller and coverage was excellent! slight grey tint to it, but dries super white in very little time! I will buy this product again and will highly recommend it to others! July 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spraying ceilings It works well over old drywall to..i sprayed acomplete house but the only thing it will bleed through on old drywall so you have to go with the kilz original in some places before applying the kilz PVA January 17, 2016
