You should be good with two cans for your front door both sides. Use up both cans. The better the coverage the easier the painting task will be when you apply your finish coat.

An aerosol can will cover approximately 20 - 25 sq. gt per container, depending on the surface texture, porosity and application method. This does NOT include the loss of material from spraying. Please email us directly at ask@kilz.com if you have additional questions. Thanks!

Yes good to use on ceiling , always best to lay some plastic over any area you are painting overhead. Home Depot has very thin painters plastic that is easy to use and remove.

When using this type of spray paint, follow the manufactures suggestions posted on the back of the can.
Anytime you are using a spray paint, you are going to get an over spray due to the pressure from the paint can.
It is always a good idea to cover everything in the area. Otherwise you will get a fine coating of paint dust over everything in the immediate area.

Can I use White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker Aerosol on Cedar deck railing

This question is from COMPLETE 13-oz. White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker Aerosol

Would I be insane if I used COMPLETE 13-oz. White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker Aerosol on my exterior cedar deck railing (trex floor) then use a stain paint? The reason is I have a chronic back problem and I don't believe I can squat and bend numerous times to prime paint the railing ....i will bite the bullet when the priming is over and paint in a traditional way.
I used a very expensive oil based stain that turned my railing black in less than two years--yes I followed all instructions-- Recently I used a deck cleaner to help rid some of the stain and was thinking about using this aerosal as my primer. Also could I use the aerosol on certain portions of the deck then use nonaerosol on other portions??? Am I NUTS? Will it work? Thanks for taking time to respond!

Hi Richie,
Thank you for your question. Kilz COMPLETE White Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker Aerosol can be applied to wood surfaces. However, we recommend checking with the manufacturer of the wood stain to first make sure that it can be applied over a primer.

Hey Richie,
Depending on the stain you use (since most need to soak into the wood w/o having a primer/paint on it) will determine if you can use this aerosol first.

Hey Richie,
Depending on the stain you use (since most need to soak into the wood w/o having a primer/paint on it) will determine if you can use this aerosol first.
As a primer, it is perfect for going over cedar railing as long as it is clean and free of debris.
However, if you decide to use say a solid stain, make sure the primer is rated by the manufacturer.
According to Behr (one of the makers of our stains) state:
"Redwood, Cedar, Cypress and other "bleeding" woods contain water soluble extractives which may cause discoloration of white and pastel colors; therefore prime the above type woods with one coat of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer."
While their primer isn't in an aerosol form, you can place it in a sprayer for easier application.
Bottom line, check with the manufacturer of the stain to make sure you can place a primer down first.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well, covers nicely and doesn't run. I had to paint the wooden trim on my new shed. Since it's out in the elements, and the wood was new and unfinished, I wanted a good oil based primer. I didn't want to mess with the clean up of a brush on oil based product so I chose the spray can Kilz Complete. I went through quite a few cans to get the job done, but the finished product looked great. In order to finish the project, I ended up having to buy some of the standard spray Kilz as I bought them out of this product. Comparing Kilz Complete to the regular Kilz, it became apparent this product was much better. It covered better and didn't run. The regular is OK, but this is better and to me, was worth the extra cost. January 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Am very pleased with this Kilz aerosol primer. I was amazed at its adhesion and color match. As said above, I am very happy with Kilz aerosol white primer. Will be looking to buy more when I run out because it has the best adhesion and its color match was perfect. Too, Kilz avoided a serious problem I am aware of with its competitor Rust-oleum's Painter's Touch aerosol white primer, which is Rust-oleum's loses pressure before product can be used up. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent coverage and stain blocking I really like this product for the way it covers and blocks stains in wood. I was surprised at how well it works on end-grain. It gives a really good seal to those cut ends. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love this stuff the killz product line is outstanding and easy to use February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Trusted Product and Best Primer/Sealer on the Market! I have used KILZ on almost every DIY project I have done for years. This product works especially well on outdoor projects, and refurbishing pieces of furniture that you plan to put in high traffic rooms, bathrooms, porches, and/or patios. It is perfect for any piece that might be exposed to stains, wetness, damp, sunlight, weather, or just heavy use and traffic. I love the fact that it can be used as a primer and/or a sealer. I just finished our mailbox, and used KILZ to protect the post from the weather, UV sunlight, and mildew. I used it to prime and seal the post in white, and know that it will be safe and protected from the elements with KILZ! October 17, 2015
