If I do an additional coat of Kilz Max, should the leaching be stopped?
To prep I washed walls with a wet cloth and a tiny bit of Dawn dish soap and allowed them to thoroughly dry before painting.

Answer:
Hi SMohr,
Thanks for your question! Two coats of primer should be enough to seal the surface and prepare it for the top coat. I recommend testing a couple coats of paint in a small area. If the wood still shows through, a third coat of primer may be necessary; giving it extra time to dry will also help with sealing. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Answer:
Hi smitty,
Thanks for your question! Yes, KILZ MAX can be sprayed with an airless spray with fluid pressure of 2,500-3,200 psi. It should have a 0.015"=0.021" spray tip with 60 mesh filter.

Will this work on paneling with a gloss finish without sanding the paneling first?

Answer:
Hi Speedy,
Thanks for your question! We highly recommend that glossy finishes be sanded even lightly first before applying the primer. This will ensure better adhesion of the primer to the paneling surface.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 72 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just OK I used this during a home renovation where there were cigarette stains and a heavy odor. Not to mention crayon marks, etc. on the wall from kids. I put on 3 coats of this stuff using a sprayer after first prepping the rooms by cleaning as best I could. In some of the worst rooms, the dingy color still bled through. It wasn't until I applied 2 coats of Behr Ultra paint that those spots mostly, if not completely disappeared. It seems to have at least done a decent job of eliminating odor and for that I give it 3 stars. If your main reason for buying this is to cover up stains on the wall, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. The cost of the MAX just isn't justified for the results. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product fast Shipping Good product and shipped to home fast. A bit pricey, but does a good job covering the cigarette smell left by the former owners of the house. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It kilz all! I had to get rid of the yellowing stains and smell of years of smoking from a previous tenant. Easy to apply, I rolled Kilz Max Primer on ceilings and walls! It kilz it all! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] August 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome stain blocker and sealer!!! I used this at my grandparents place they just moved into recently- they had a plywood shed on their front covered porch that needed to match the exterior house color. One coat of this product, 1 hour later was able to cover effortlessly with Behr Ultra Exterior satin paint! They were happy, I was happy because it took very little effort and time, and I enjoyed visiting and having coffee in between steps. Thank you Kilz- this primer really works like advertised, blocking oily stains and dirt and allowing me to cover in one coat of paint. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good sealer and bonding primer. I've used this twice over the past few jobs. First job was a smoker's house at least 10 years. The walls were flat paint so no chance of washing. The kilz max waterborne sealed it perfectly. I did let it dry overnight before top coating. I have just tried it out on cabinets and it was dry and able to sand within the hour! Powders up very nicely, bonded well. Tips: stir it very well and often. It can dry out so move rather quickly. Do not mix with any other paint! If you cover a water stain on ceiling. Two coats and let it dry overnight before topcoat. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with the product!!! I've used and tried a few different primers, kilz is the best. Easy to use, low cost, great coverage, and on a recent furniture project, killed the smell in one of the the drawers. :) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Blocks stains When painting over stains caused by mildew, rust, or other pigments- KILZ will block bleeding. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for changing colors Our newly purchased house had mint green and salmon walls and ceiling. Painted them three times and the color still came thru. Painted once with kill and a color coat and now our walls are white. Should have started with Kiln in the first place! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 19, 2016
