Customer Questions & Answers

Can Kilz Max be used on new drywall?

Instead of a PVA Primer? Im painting an interior remodel that has a mix of old and new drywall. The old drywall has nicotine stains and I would like to spray everything at once.
Asked by: Cascadian
Hello Cascadian, Great question. Yes, our Kilz Max would work well on drywall. Best regards, Kevin

Priming Paneling

Will this work on paneling with a gloss finish without sanding the paneling first?
Asked by: Speedy
We primed both old real wood, and slightly newer fake, plastic paneling. Both seemed to take the primer well. I think we should have sanded or used a deglosser, but we have had no problems since we put it on a month ago with the product peeling.

Will kilz max seal pet urine odors on old hardwood floor ?

Asked by: otsumm
Hi otsumm, Our Kilz Max will seal difficult pet odors, however it was designed for subfloors only. If your hardwood floor isn't a subfloor, you may want to reach out to your local Home Depot for a similar product that would be suitable for your project. Good luck! - Sara

Hi, how will KILZ MAX do at sealing in smoke odor on burned CHARRED wood. I know this is asking ...

Hi, how will KILZ MAX do at sealing in smoke odor on burned CHARRED wood. I know this is asking a lot of the product, but it seems to be rated so good I thought I would ask. I want to not have to remove some charred wood, but to to spray it and reinforce it and then spray it again. to know how effective KILZ MAX would do in this situation would be great. Also if you could estimate the likely coverage sqft, on what is a very porous surface, does KILZ MAX soak it a LOT or is it resistant to soaking in ? Big thanks in advance.
Asked by: Restorer
Hello, Thank you for your interest in our products. It's really hard to say how our Kilz Max will do with sealing smoke odor on burned charred wood. Multiple coats may be needed to seal that odor. Our Kilz Max should cover about 300 square feet per gallon for a porous surface. Best regards, Kevin

MAX 5-gal. White Water-Based Interior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 91.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the best latex primer I've ever used I used kilz max on a customers house recently. They had a grease fire in the kitchen so the ceilings and walls were heavily covered with smoke damage. I sprayed two coats of kilz max on ceilings and walls. The product covered so well I could have just left the ceilings with no top coat. I recommend this product to pros and home owners. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from saved the day-dead animal in wall smell... Kilz Max saved us. I noticed an odor around our linen closet but with teenage boys in the house....A few days later I had to put clean towels away and open the door and the smell hot me. Dead something. So I donned a facemask and rubber gloves and pulled everything out (a 6' wide x 30" deep closet packed pull) to find whatever had died. There was nothing dead. But the closet smelled worse empty. DH went into the attic and found a raccoon decaying between the wall studs benind the closet, about 4 feet down and no way to get it out (it would have fallen apart anyhow) The only thing we could do was wait for it to stop stinking, but ugh! THe smell was seeping into the wall beind the closet. Did I mention my parents were going to be visisting for a week the following week? So I bought sone Kilz Max, opened up all the windows and gave the inside of the closet 2 coats of Kilz Max. The Kilz Max did the trick, no more dead animal smell. Of course I had wash everything that came out of the closet- 12 loads in all. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pet odors be gone!! We recently purchased a used home where, without our knowledge, animals controlled the entire home & used it as their personal litter box. Once we finally pulled all the carpet and pad, we could see that we needed to block this before new "anything" could be installed. Enter: 5 gallons of KILZ MAX!!! One coat down and all these worries were gone! We have new carpet and can actually lay down on it and not be reminded of why we do! Thank you Kilz!!!! This product is legit!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covering up BAD...seriously BAD pet odor We recently bought an old farmhouse with the intent to renovate room by room over time...the previous owner had several animals who apparently liked to use the carpeted living room rather than go outside :/ we removed the carpet and pad before even moving in. While that helped it still smelled, I tried everything...baking soda and vinegar...scrubbing with soap and water..every DIY remedy online.....even straight up bleach scrubbed into the subfloor nothing worked! I have used kilz regular primer before and knew the coverage was unbeatable so I found the kilz maxx odor blocker which of course was the highest price can but it was worth it! Rolled 2 coats on the subfloor smell was gone and hasn't returned! I'm a kilz believer for life! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money Saver We were remodeling the laundry room and bathroom. We found enough drywall at a bargain price, because supposedly a worker spilled coffee on it. Really, they laid out 30 pieces of drywall and spilled coffee on every single piece? Suspicious to say the least. The price was too good to pass up, or so we thought. We purchased it all. The only downside, after priming the drywall, every single "coffee" stain could be seen. Not wanting to accept spotted walls, I bought KILZ MAX primer. I redid it all. Darn I wish I would have done that the first time. It works. Every single spot was gone. No bleed through. We saved a small fortune on the drywall, even with purchasing the great KILZ MAX primer we saved time and money. Lesson learned, I will continue to use KILZ with all my painting projects. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Cabinets As a painter, I have painted several sets of cabinets. As there seems to be a trend of painting previously stained cabinets, I needed a good primer to keep the stain from bleeding through and to avoid the time of sanding. This product is easy to brush, roll, or spray. I recommend this product on a regular basis. The only primer I use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tbis product saved a room My daughter painted her room dark purple, then, CHAULKBOARD BLACK. I tried regular primer in a small area, but it bled through three coats. Thanks to Kilz MAX, the room is now a soft peach. Thank you for saving me a new sheetrock job! Soni [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
