Answer:
Hi smitty,
Thanks for your question! Yes, KILZ MAX can be sprayed with an airless spray with fluid pressure of 2,500-3,200 psi. It should have a 0.015"=0.021" spray tip with 60 mesh filter.

Answer:
Hi Speedy,
Thanks for your question! We highly recommend that glossy finishes be sanded even lightly first before applying the primer. This will ensure better adhesion of the primer to the paneling surface.

I just bought a house that had smokers and cats. It smells terrible and the walls and ceilings have nicotine stains. A painter friend of mine said to use Kilz original and not to waste my time with latex primers. I would like to have the best result, but, prefer water-based paint because I have chemical sensitivities. Also, would Max be recommended over Original oil in the high humidity shower/ bathroom area where mold has started?

Hello TJ and thank you for your inquiry. Both KILZ Max (water based) and KILZ Original (oil based) will work well to block the pet and nicotine odors. Oil based primers (and paints) are well-established especially to deal with water stains and pros usually prefer the oil based. However, KILZ MAX is a new formulation that is designed to block severe stains and odors at equal performance to oils and shellacs. The main advantage of KILZ MAX is the water base will mean easier clean-up, lower odor and VOC levels. However for those advantages, it also costs about 2X the KILZ Original cost. Regarding applying MAX over Original in shower or bathroom area, this is not recommended. Mold should be removed completely and surface clean/dry before attempting new primer and paint. For the bathroom area, we would recommend KILZ Premium primer topped off with a paint that has a mildew resistant claim. Read Less

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 61 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just OK I used this during a home renovation where there were cigarette stains and a heavy odor. Not to mention crayon marks, etc. on the wall from kids. I put on 3 coats of this stuff using a sprayer after first prepping the rooms by cleaning as best I could. In some of the worst rooms, the dingy color still bled through. It wasn't until I applied 2 coats of Behr Ultra paint that those spots mostly, if not completely disappeared. It seems to have at least done a decent job of eliminating odor and for that I give it 3 stars. If your main reason for buying this is to cover up stains on the wall, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. The cost of the MAX just isn't justified for the results. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product fast Shipping Good product and shipped to home fast. A bit pricey, but does a good job covering the cigarette smell left by the former owners of the house. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good sealer and bonding primer. I've used this twice over the past few jobs. First job was a smoker's house at least 10 years. The walls were flat paint so no chance of washing. The kilz max waterborne sealed it perfectly. I did let it dry overnight before top coating. I have just tried it out on cabinets and it was dry and able to sand within the hour! Powders up very nicely, bonded well. Tips: stir it very well and often. It can dry out so move rather quickly. Do not mix with any other paint! If you cover a water stain on ceiling. Two coats and let it dry overnight before topcoat. July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! Recently had to redo our pantry due to pests (we just moved in). Kilz'd the whole thing, caulked the crevices, tore out the baseboards and even kilz'd the laminate flooring. Couple coats of polyurethane and the pantry looks GREAT with no sign of pests! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best product ever This product is amazing. I had moved in my parents house after they died. My mom was a lifetime smoker and they lived in the house for 40 years. The nicotine had penetrated every surface. On the ceiling in one room, I used 2 gallons of ceiling paint and the nicotine was still there. I bought a gallon of the Kilz Max and it covered it in one swipe. Needless to say, I WILL be using this Kilz Max in the rest of the house. March 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KILZ Gives Life to Neglected Old Walls I'm a firm believer in priming any surface prior to the final coat of paint. Be it metal, wood, or sheetrock, I prime it. Ten years ago I purchased a 60 year-old house in North Dakota that sat vacant 25 years. After remodeling the basement for a few years I started remodeling the upstairs rooms. Pink rooms, blue rooms, and green rooms. I purchased KILZ for the primer--as I always have--and primed each room. Only one coat was needed per room. The final coat of paint went on smooth and only one coat was also needed. I saved time and money applying KILZ primer because my projects are done right the first time. March 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good Having painted the first and second floors of ceilings and walls with Kilz Mar, the cigarette smoke is not noticeable. I have yet to paint the closets and utility room on my own. My painters said "it is a pain in the butt to work with" but it actually is better than the alternative oil based products that are toxic to smell if not protected. I am counting on this product to "seal" in the smell as it advertises. Time will tell, but I am very pleased so far. July 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by review for kilz max I foster puppies and haveto dogs of my own so when I ripped up my flooring I knew I would need something tough!!! Kilz Max went on nice and smooth and even. I can already smell the difference or I should say not smell!!! As well as thegarage product there was very little smell from that while applying or when it was drying so that was also a huge plus!!!! My dogs even helped me apply it!!!! It's also very easy to clean up when you have messes :) July 10, 2015
