I'm hoping the sixth coat is the lucky one... I had water damage through a ceiling (lathe and plaster 1920s home). I scraped off the worst parts and re-plastered. I bought Kilz Premium to cover the water damage. It's taken six coats, applied thick, proper dry timed between coats, to cover the stains. SIX COATS?!? I think any paint would have finally covered in six coats. Don't waste your money. The mobile app only lets me add 1 photo, so I'm showing one stain after FIVE coats.

We redecorated a basement paneling nightmare of a guest room this past weekend and used 2 gallons of White Water-Based Interior/Exterior Primer, Sealer and Stain-Blocker. I am super sensitive to odors, and this had no odor unless you were standing with your nose up to the wall. This dried so fast, it was impressive. This was able to cover paneling with a final helpful application of Behr Ultra Premium Pure White. We won't use anything else!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by MelissaG Good Product But Didn't Cover Water Stains
Used the premium to prime a double staircase and ceiling. Since I was dealing with various colors and textures because of water damage and repair and a dark wall paint, I selected the premium version and paid more to make sure I got the right product. While I will commend that the odor was minor and the overall product was good (didn't drip a lot, rolled nicely) my problem is that it wasn't hiding the stains on the ceiling. They were fairly minor discolorations but no matter how many times I went over that area it just would not cover it. Finally I just gave up and when I went to paint I just went over it several times with the finish paint.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MphsMike good stain cover - thick consistency
This paint is more expensive than other stain blocking primers and the expense is increased because it will not cover 400 sq feet as listed unless you thin it and reduce it's stain effectiveness. I recommend it where you are trying to conceal sight imperfections in texture as well as stains. However, with smooth walls and minor stains I prefer Zinnser Bulls Eye 1.2.3 Plus over either of the Kilz latex primers. With serious stains I go to oil based or shellac primers.

The primer/sealer did a good job over drywall. But took 3-coats to remove the yellowing from stained wood-trim. I recommend this for general purpose priming/sealing and light colored water damage but for existing stained wood-trim stick with an oil base or shellac based primer. It does dry very quickly though and cleans up with soap and water.

I have previously purchased some of the lower grade stain blocker products. They just don't work as well as Kilz premium.

I will use this product again, it covered the stains on the wall before we painted it.

My porch showed evidence of pealing paint and mold, so I used Kilz to seal the wood and concrete. It covered the surfaces easily, no need for two coats.
