Baffled with the constant creaks in Archer tub

Just had this installed by contractor. It creaks like a drum when we shower, and slightly so when we bathe. On either side it is easy to push it in and out, like plastic, which I suppose is just the deal with acrylic. But the floor is squeaky and loud. Does anybody else have constant creaks and pops when standing to shower in it? Should it be like traditional bathtubs, ie. silent!? Thank you,
Asked by: jcvilla
I would bet that the contractor didn't set the tub in a be of mortar since you are having the creaks. It's a bit time consuming to do but is an important step.

Want to hear from those of you that installed this tub in a mortar base: Does it still creak or crack after installed in mortar?
Asked by: wekims
Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your question. Installing an acrylic bath in a mortar bed eliminates all noises if it is installed correctly. My personal bath is installed in a mortar bed and makes nary a sound. Do NOT use expanding foam as it may crack an acrylic bath. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

Can this deep soaking tub be installed with glass shower doors?

Doing a bathroom remodel and want to add tub mounted glass doors. Any problems doing so?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, there is plenty of room to rest the glass door hardware. This tub is a little different than others, in that the edges angle down quite-a-bit. In other words, they are not level. It would be good to consider this when choosing the shower door. I'd look at the base of the shower door and consider whether it will work if at a slight angle.

What is on the bottom of this tub? Because (I assume) so many people want to file lawsuits now days, most tubs now have that sand paper looking stuff on the bottom of the tub so that people wont slip and fall. However, it absolutely ruins the beauty of the bathtub and it is impossible to get clean. Because it is a rough surface, the dirt just sticks to it like crazy and it won't come clean. I saw a tub a while back that had a little bumpiness on the bottom that was still smooth and cleanable. I'm hoping this tub has the smooth bumps. Can anyone tell me? I wish the manufacturers would include this information and show close-up photos. Thank you!

Archer 5 ft. Acrylic Left Hand Drain Rectangular Farmhouse Apron-Front Non-Whirlpool Bathtub in Mexican Sand is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 200.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak Structure This tub is gorgeous and perfect depth but during installation I stepped into the tub to measure the walls for furring strips and I heard the tub base crack. It didn't crack all the way through but none the less it cracked. The tub was installed to Koehler specs with construction adhesive and the tub was level. I called Koehler and their philosophy was "it's okay and it'll do that for up to six months" I told them there was now a weak spot where the tub cracked and they still didn't seem concerned. Sad for such a well known manufacturer. Needless to say HD came through and agreed this is not a good situation and we did a return. Thankfully I did not have the walls installed yet. I ordered an American Standard tub and couldn't be happier. Buyer beware on this Koehler.

We're still in the remodel phase but the tub has been installed and it looks beautiful. It's large and fits my 6' tall husband comfortably. The thing I didn't like was that the 1st tub I ordered was cracked and we didn't notice it until after the tub was installed so we had 2 week delay and had to have our plumber back for the removal and reinstall. But Home Depot worked with us and we're back on track happy as clams. One note: this tub is 19" tall; keep that in mind if you have someone in the household who might have trouble getting in and out of the tub alone.

I would not buy another acrylic bath tub, it simply feels flimsy in comparison to a cast iron tub. For the price I thought it would be a stronger product.

This tub seems like good quality, but everything does when it's new. installed it myself and the instructions are fairly simple to understand. The back and side edges are smooth and consistent for applying tile. After the installation the tub was sturdy and did not flex when setting on the edge. Color is nice, but it should be since Kohler charges about $150 premium for biscuit. It's deep, that's what I wanted-but I can see where that may be a little difficult stepping over for an elderly or slightly mobile challenged person, in addition... getting out. I wanted a soaker tub without whirlpool, I considered a 36" wide but did not have the space required and it uses too much water to fill. Overall I'm happy.

At the bottom it's pretty thin (which I would know because it chipped after a tool was dropped during install). Pretty disappointing if you thought you were getting quality like a solid surface tub. All told it'll cost you at least $800 for the tub and the overflow, so quality for the price wasn't very good. Chipped as easily as a $200 tub. It's nice and roomy and great to soak in, but overpriced. Also didn't like that the overflow only came in brass or PVC, no ABS option.

The top ledge is slanted in towards the tub so that you cannot put shampoo, soap, etc. on it without it sliding into the tub. Also and this is no fault of Koehler', but I am 5'4" and I feel a little cramped in it. It is deep but not as long as I would have liked.
