Answer:
This seat is not motion activated. It is on a seven hour timer which turns on the light every night at the same time. The user sets the time to start the cycle.

Put four AA batteries in the LED module, and press the button on the back of the seat at the time of day that you would like the light to remain on for the next 7 hours.

Cachet LED Nightlight Elongated Closed Front Toilet Seat in Biscuit is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 153.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Two Major Failures in 10 Months When I first installed the new seat on a Kohler branded toilet, I expected the job to take five minutes, including removal and disposal of the old seat. After nearly two hours of failing to bolt it onto the toilet using weird plastic nuts and bolts supplied with the seat, I gave up and went to the hardware store for a generic replacement set. These took about two minutes to install, plus the time and expense to go buy them. The light worked well enough for a while. It runs for 7 hours a night full time, with a desired start time initialized by a press of a button on the rear of the seat. The light didn't really seem to add anything useful, but it is kind of novel to have the inside of the bowl glowing blue all night. Some of the light can be seen with the bowl closed also. The first set of four AA batteries lasted about six months. The quiet close feature was fantastic, for a while. It was silent, and only required a gentle pull on the lid to get the lid and seat going down. In less than 10 months, the LED module in the toilet seat has rusted on all battery contacts to the point that it no longer functions. I can scrape away some rust and get temporary functionality, but this is ridiculous, especially in the arid desert southwest. The bathroom is which it is installed has an exhaust fan that is always used in conjunction with the shower, and the bathroom door is rarely closed anyway when showering. No battery has ever leaked acid while installed in this unit. Kohler rapidly responded with excellent customer service and shipped a new light module. If it is the same construction as the first, I have no reason to believe that it will last any longer. I guess it did not occur to the manufacturer of the module that a closed toilet bowl might be a bit of a humid environment. While waiting for the new light to arrive, the lid mysteriously disconnected from the seat housing. Pins that connected it to the seat retreated into the seat beyond reach. Now, the seat has no attached lid, and the seat simply falls noisily onto the toilet with no dampening whatsoever. I have sent an email to Kohler, and based on previous experience I expect excellent customer service, and they will surely promptly replace the entire unit, but again, I have no reason to believe that it will last any longer than the last one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor product with a cute idea Ok I bought into this cute idea to help keep the floor dry from boys at night. Very flimsy material, came with nicks in plastic, incredibly poor hinge design and quality..its not like this is a minor function of a toilet seat. The main reason this is going back is because the seat wont stay UP!!...really!! The hinge can be turned around for a bit of adjustment, but did not help. The battery light pack just snaps into the back..NOT sealed. Not even a gasket ... this is going to be a wet rotted out mess within a short time . The only "bold" thing about this product is that they would let it come to market The last thing you want to deal with this day & age is your toilet seat...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the cost This LED Nightlight is worthless! Unless you're the person who installed the device, you'll never know that the NIghtlight is there (even in total darkness)... I installed it in my powder room for visiting guest, absolutely nobody knew that there was a LED NIGHTLIGHT installed.... The device is simply not bright enough nor does it light up the bowl area. A bad purchase for me!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Bother Don't bother! this is the second toilet set I bought - the first was the same model, without the light - I installed it as per the instructions, and at the first sitting, it split right down the middle at the front of the seat. C'mon!. I'm only 190 lbs. So...I ordered the second seat, with the night lite, and it arrived on time, but because of my busy schedule, and because the 1st seat was still usable, I didn't try to install the 2nd seat until July 2016 (bought it Nov 2015). It just sat there next to the toilet, unopened in its box. When I finally got around to installing it, as I took it out of the box... it was broken at the back where the screws go!!! Inside the box, it was broken! So I took it to my local Home Depot to get a replacement, but because I waited so long to install it, they would not honor the warranty - no replacement, no refund, no nothing. Stuck with a worthless unattractive paperweight. I'll never buy another Kohler product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made This was a replacement for the original toilet seat that came with the Kohler Cimarron toilet. It is more attractive and sturdier plus it has the LED nightlight. It is comfortable and I love the slow close feature - No banging by accident! The LED is very dim, but, does highlight the bowl area without turning on the bathroom lighting. The quick-release feature is great at cleaning time. The batteries are easy to replace and the light is easy to program for overnight and maintain the setting. It is possible to reset the timer on the light by holding in the button for a few seconds. I'm very pleased with this seat and it looks great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof Never thought I would regret purchasing a Kohler product, but this toilet seat is garbage. Electronics are not water resistant or water proof, having young children in the house, the light no longer works after 4 months and is just a urine trap that stinks. Font waste your money on this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from piece of cake I cannot comprehend how anyone can consider this a difficult install. Install was as easy as could be, construction is solid. Will update in the future if anything goes wrong but so far so good.
