Inside the canister is a tube with a plastic cap that has a tube for the water refill. The plastic cap broke in half and I want to know if I have to purchase the whole kit or if I can purchase just the part I need?

According to what I read on line and the way the product is put together it is IMO the best choice. When I examined the entire assembly I was happy I bought the entire unit.

How do I get refill hose to the top of the canister from coming loose?

The refill hose keeps popping out of the top of the canister. There is no clip or other device to hold it in place. As such the bowl will not fill up if the hose is out. I keep reinserting it but it keeps popping out.

A friend was having this problem. After much research, It appears as though Kohler has redesigned the part such that it has a nipple onto which you attach the hose end--same as on the fill valve hose end--instead of the hole you stick it into, which fits too loose, causing it to pop out--your problem.

It is the "stem" that the flush canister wraps around, and is the overflow/bowl fill access. Easily removed: unhook chain and remove canister. grasp stem/part firmly and twist counterclockwise. it will unlock and lift out. replacement is the reverse.

Do you mean just the hose or the end the hose attaches to comes loose from the top of the canister assembly. If it is just the hose; Is this since a new assembly was installed? IF this is the piece the hose attaches to that is coming away from the canister assembly, then you need a new assemble either way. that piece is not sold separately and I found no long term fix without replacement.

how to detect where toilet is leaking

This is a follow up to my earlier question. I filled the tank with a bucket of water and the tank holds the water with no obvious leaks at the canister seal or really anywhere since the water tank holds water. Does this mean there is a problem at the fill valve instead of a leaky canister assembly? Before I added the bucket of water I could see water swirling at the base of the fill valve and water did not rise more than 1 inch.

Repair to which part is most likely needed?

Turn off water line, mark the water tank with a pencil and wait for overnight. If water lost means you have a leak at the canister. Most likely the canister seal valve. If it is still leak then replace the complete canister set.

assuming you mean you have to replace a rubber gasket, and that gasket is on the bottom of the canister, you can replace just that one piece separately. If you mean any other gasket on the assembly, you will need to purchase and replace the entire assembly.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I dont need no stinking plumber... perfect fit product with one small exception. I only needed the seal where the fill tube is attached to the plunger assembly. Unfortunately, the only way to get it was with the entire assembly. I was concerned about damaging the seal on the new unit as it was made of a different material than the original, (hopefully it was changed because of these failures), if I tried to just pull the new seal off the new unit and install it on the original... so I had to replace the entire plunger assembly. I did this by not changing the entire unit because I did not want to go to the trouble of removing the tank. The only issue I had with this new unit was that the plunger was a different height and so had to adjust the float which took some more doing... and of course, there was nothing about that in the instructions. This was overall an easy to install fix as long as you have more common sense than the person who wrote the instructions and I am always happy to avoid the crazy high expense of having a plumber visit. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy as flushing Just needed the middle part to install ( stop and tube connector ) Thirty seconds to install and I was up and flushing again April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really works well This product really works well and was easy to install. It took about 15 minutes to do the work and I'm really happy with the results. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to remove and install Remove chain, remove center support by holding firmly and twisting counter clockwise (1/4 turn)..replace new canister and seal and center support January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Why Did Kohler ruin a perfectly good design? Why would Kohler ruin a perfectly good design? The a aqua flush is a terrible design and would not recommend anyone buy a toilet with it installed. The canister does not last very long, just out of warrantee it broke and you have to wait a week to receive. To have to take off the tank to repair is just ridiculous , thumbs down to Kohler for this blunder! Hope you have a second toilet to use in your house if you purchase a Kohler toilet that uses this valve! December 1, 2015
