Inside the canister is a tube with a plastic cap that has a tube for the water refill. The plastic cap broke in half and I want to know if I have to purchase the whole kit or if I can purchase just the part I need?

According to what I read on line and the way the product is put together it is IMO the best choice. When I examined the entire assembly I was happy I bought the entire unit.

how to detect where toilet is leaking

This is a follow up to my earlier question. I filled the tank with a bucket of water and the tank holds the water with no obvious leaks at the canister seal or really anywhere since the water tank holds water. Does this mean there is a problem at the fill valve instead of a leaky canister assembly? Before I added the bucket of water I could see water swirling at the base of the fill valve and water did not rise more than 1 inch.

Repair to which part is most likely needed?

Answer:
Turn off water line, mark the water tank with a pencil and wait for overnight. If water lost means you have a leak at the canister. Most likely the canister seal valve. If it is still leak then replace the complete canister set.

Hello, my name is Justine with KOHLER Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your toilet question.
I apologize but we will need to know the model number of the toilet which will be inside the tank just above the water line. It will most likely be just replacing the flapper or the fill valve but I recommend that you call our customer care line at 1-800-4KOHLER (1-800-456-4537) and they can walk

I apologize you were unable to find the information you were looking for. Typically when what is being described occurs, only the seal will need to be changed on your canister assembly. Replacing part number GP1059291 should resolve the leak you are describing.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Why Did Kohler ruin a perfectly good design? Why would Kohler ruin a perfectly good design? The a aqua flush is a terrible design and would not recommend anyone buy a toilet with it installed. The canister does not last very long, just out of warrantee it broke and you have to wait a week to receive. To have to take off the tank to repair is just ridiculous , thumbs down to Kohler for this blunder! Hope you have a second toilet to use in your house if you purchase a Kohler toilet that uses this valve! December 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I need to return the product Part does not fit. I have emailed customer service as directed by the invoice to determine how I need to return the product. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gasket sold at Home Depot Gasket takes one minute to change, no messing with the canister. November 28, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Kohler installation information is lacking Kohler uses proprietary parts making acquiring replacement parts very frustrating. The videos that average people put up on YouTube are much more helpful than anything Kohler provides. November 3, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not what I was exspecting Problem may lie with Koler toilet, doesn't flush with power very slow! you would think with 3" opening it would flush anything down. October 5, 2015
