I am trying to figure out how to make the stopper keep the water in the tub, but it just doesn't work, what is the proper procedure?

Asked by: Anonymous
When screwed into place, all you should need to do is push down, the stopper will be a little lower, but the gasket will seal, then to drain, just push it again and it should pop up a little and commence draining. If it doesn't work like that, then contact the MFG.

The drain does not fit the ordinary configuration in a wall and added complications when installing the tub. It will not fit in an ordinary wall in the bathroom. We had to exchange bath tub and drain because it did not work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Answer to problem There have been many reviews regarding this drain not working due to a flaw in the design. I contacted Kohler for a replacement stopper because after a few months our drain quit holding water also. When I replaced the rubber gasket, I noticed that it was originally installed on the metal top that you press to engage/disengage the drain. So I replaced the new on there and it didn't fit properly. But I tried it anyway and the new one didn't work either. Then it hit me; you put the gasket on the threads of the plastic cartridge. Once I did that, it worked like a charm and I could screw the drain in completely instead of unscrewing it slightly in order for it to function. Easy fix. This drain also comes in oil rubbed bronze. You just have to order it elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sealant and sealant It will be even great if the installation package includes silicon sealant. My conctractor did not use sealant to the gasket rubber (:-<). After a month (yes, more than a month) the ceiling below the tub started seeing wet spot and eventually water leaking. You know what's happened next to your ceiling. Just a friendly suggestion and reminder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Toe-tap stopper failed after 6 months! Just installed this drain kit 6 months ago with an archer tub and the drain stopper has already failed. Pulled it after my wife tried taking a bath the other night and didn't realize it wasn't working until she had run completely out of hot water and the tub had barely filled. After removing the stopped, saw that the seal is warped. Very disappointing for a Kohler product. Thanks for ruining my date night Kohler.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How to fix the drain I have had this drain for over a year. It tends to come unscrewed, which makes the drain not hold water. (I'm sure that my four year old messing with it doesn't help.) Here is how I fix it: I unscrew the pop-up drain completely, as you would to remove and clean it. You should be able to remove it and hold it in your hand. (Go ahead and clean it while you have it out.) I compress the pop-up mechanism and squeeze the drain together tightly. I then turn the drain WHILE HOLDING IT TOGETHER TIGHTLY so that the screw on the bottom starts to protrude. You want to keep turning it while compressing it together until the screw at the bottom sticks out at least a half inch. Then you can screw the drain back into the bottom of the tub - it should work perfectly after you do this. Hope this helps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Description Is Incorrect Look carefully at the picture and then read the description. Check the part number at Kohler's website. You will discover that this item is NOT, in fact, the brass overflow bath drain but is, rather, the PVC one. The price alone should be a dead giveaway. I knew that going in but would have been really mad if I had expected the brass unit. Installation went OK but the seal between the overflow collector and the tub could be better. A gasket, silicone sealant and three screws make it all work. Could have been done better by Kohler.
