I bought two of these in June 2010 because they are Kohler and the best that were in stock. I put one in my main kitchen sink and one in the island sink. The one under the main kitchen sink started leaking, luckily I was under the sink moving things around because it was a small leak and would have ruined everything before it showed. I remove the drain and the nut that holds the PVC drain pipe to the drain is corroded so much that it failed. I was shocked after five years of household use it failed. I have had many houses over the years and have never had this happen with even builder grade parts. I went to the Home Depot and was looking at another Kohler to replace this one and realized that the one that is on display has a heavy brass nut and the one for sale has a cheesy chrome plated nut. Mine is a cheesy nut as well.
The drain in my island sink is almost never used and this one the finish started coming off within two years. Both were purchased together cleaned with the same cleaners so not sure why this happened. I have really nice house and after 22 years in the military I know how to run a tight ship. It is unfortunate that if I were to hold inspection in my kitchen I would fail myself for both drains. I would like a response from Kohler if possible.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Olbarn Use threadlocker on screws
The strainer is worth the price because the threads are cut, not rolled so the tailpiece stays tight. Having the three screws to tighten to the sink avoids having a torque load on the sink. Could be an issue when the sink is a newly installed under-mount to avoid disturbing the silicone seal. Only issue was the loss of two of the three screws after six months. I think it was due to vibration caused by the disposal but the screws are 1/4-20 x 3/4 Phillips pan stainless screws. Advise using non-permanent thread-locker for the screws to avoid the problem.

I had these in a previous apartment and they were terrible. They do not hold water at all. There is a plastic ring (flange I believe they're called) that acts to stop the water draining. They do not work. I could never fill the sink with water to wash dishes as the water would just seep through these stoppers and eventually these plastic ring stoppers would get washed down the drain. This is the reason I am not buying a Kholer sink for my new apartment.

Looks great out of box. Finish wears off very quick. I lost the o-ring to the drain 3 months after install, replacements don't stay on well. Flange for the plunger separated from the strainer after about 18 months, fitting will be difficult to reseat. Now it's totally useless.

DO NOT BUY I had two of these in a previous house and they did not hold water well. I moved to another house and for some crazy reason purchased this after I purchased a Kohler cast iron sink. This one does not hold water at all. No matter how hard I try I have even pushed down on the strainer knob and still does not hold water.
Horrible product and way over priced!

I liked the weight and appearance of drain and as a result I purchased even though this was more than other products, I thought that the name and quality would make up for the price. I was unaware that the warranty was only one year. Kohler was very helpful in replacing but I still have to get under sink and change.
Based on price and how fast the brushed nickle wore off, I would not recommend this product. I also would expect that this would have a life time warranty like there other products.
