Well, Dual-Flush means you have two types of flushing. The Dual flush has a handle with two levers, one green the other silver. The green is used for liquids and the silver is used for solids. The silver handle is used in conjunction with the green. When the silver handle is used it pushes the green one as well and allows more water to be used. Answer:
You can save water by using one flush option for "number 1" and the second flush option for "number 2".
The system knows how much water to use based upon which lever you use for flushing.

Dual flush saves water and money. The regular shaped lever is two parts. Green for liquids uses less water (the majority of your bathroom usage) and standard lever for solids. The solid lever provides more force and water.
While it seems silly, the amount of times you flush a toilet during a week can easily compound and save or cost you money.

The "flush rating" is not the problem so much as the water being too low in the bowl so that solid waste lands on the porcelain and takes 15 flushes to wash it clean. Tell me, how does THAT "save" water?

Although I'd like to buy new, taller, toilets now, I'm keeping what I have until toilet designers get a clue and design a toilet with a trap that leaves enough water in the bowl so that solid waste does NOT land on the porcelain!
My toilet ALWAYS works with only ONE flush - and that's with three large sealed containers of water sitting in the tank to reduce the amount of water used in each flush.
The key is that there is enough water surface IN THE BOWL to prevent solid waste landing on, and sticking to, the porcelain, which requires MANY flushes to get the bowl clean.
I'd rather deal with a toilet a little lower than I'd prefer, rather than deal with solid waste landing on and sticking to porcelain and having to flush 15 times to clean it off. Read Less

If you mean gallons per flush, I believe that would be 1.1 to 1.6gpf dependent upon which handle you use.

It should be more than sufficient. In fact, most septic system installers recommend that you use low water usage fixtures, because it can dramatically reduce the amount of water entering the septic system each year.

Highline Complete Solution 2-piece 1.1 GPF Dual Flush Elongated Toilet in White is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 112.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functions well and Looks great! Our contractor recommended this toilet. It offers comfort height and economical dual flush features. It works well we just had to get used to the "less water flush". Nice thing is the flush is very quiet. It took our contractor very little time to install the toilets...we replaced 3 older models. So far....quite happy!

First, the toilet seat is cheap so we replaced that on the second day. When you sit on the toilet, the lid to the tank moves as it does not fit snugly onto the tank. Now after 3 months of use, it either does not flush or does not stop filling. We have to open the lid almost every usage. I have had the installer back and he said we got a lemon. Very sad as this went into my beautiful, completely remodeled bathroom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Highline review My contractor installed this so I can't speak to ease of installation. It looks good and it works well. I love the dual flush and though I am short the toilet height isn't too tall for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time for us to upgrade! Old toilet was 28 yr old and it was time for a new one. Of all toilets on display we picked this one! We know the Koehler brand to be the best. I gave 4 stars because we are still getting used to the dual flush system and the higher seating! I feel good that we are using less tank water. No problem with installation by Home Depot contracted plumber. Just an easy transaction all round.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be more happy with this toilet. I've been DIY remodeling my home for the past several months, and bought one of these for my 1/2 bath a few months ago. I was so happy with it that it was a no-brainer to get another one for the master bath. Excellent flush production, good height, and elongated. It comes with everything you need - wax ring, mounting bolts, even the seat, and on top of that the price is excellent!

One was an ELMBROOK model and it worked fantastically (so far). The other two were the HIGHLINE model dual flush toilet, one elongated and one round. Neither of them worked well with the flush refill feature. Using the full flush they either continued to run or filled and slowly leaked and cycled filling until I jiggled the "flapper" valve to seat it properly. No problem with the ELMBROOK even though the mechanisms look the same. I sent an email to the customer service on Monday and haven't heard anything back from them as of Wednesday. I bought them at the same time so I didn't realize there was a problem with the design. I can't bring the toilets back and I really don't want to go through the install again. The designs are different so I can't go get the other design and install it in the HIGHLINE units. So far my recommendation is to get the ELMBROOK model if anyone wants to get a Kohler at all.
