Well, Dual-Flush means you have two types of flushing. The Dual flush has a handle with two levers, one green the other silver. The green is used for liquids and the silver is used for solids. The silver handle is used in conjunction with the green. When the silver handle is used it pushes the green one as well and allows more water to be used. You can save water by using one flush option for "number 1" and the second flush option for "number 2".
The system knows how much water to use based upon which lever you use for flushing.

Although I'd like to buy new, taller, toilets now, I'm keeping what I have until toilet designers get a clue and design a toilet with a trap that leaves enough water in the bowl so that solid waste does NOT land on the porcelain!
My toilet ALWAYS works with only ONE flush - and that's with three large sealed containers of water sitting in the tank to reduce the amount of water used in each flush.
The key is that there is enough water surface IN THE BOWL to prevent solid waste landing on, and sticking to, the porcelain, which requires MANY flushes to get the bowl clean.
I'd rather deal with a toilet a little lower than I'd prefer, rather than deal with solid waste landing on and sticking to porcelain and having to flush 15 times to clean it off. Read Less

Is the inside porcelain covered with water or does solid waste land on the porcelain?

I wanted a taller toilet, but so far I have found none acceptable because solid waste lands directly on the porcelain, instead of in water, and requires as many as 15 flushes to get it clean. How does THAT "save" water????

My current (old but pretty) toilet has water covering the bowl so solid waste lands in the water, requiring only ONE flush to get it clean. And this is with several closed containers of water sitting in the tank so that less water is used for the flush.

The KEY is is not so much the amount of water in the flush as it is the porcelain bowl being filled/covered with water so solid waste doesn't land on the porcelain. The cause is the trap design that keeps the water level in the BOWL too low to cover the porcelain. There is no way to fix it so that more water stays in the bowl because over a certain water level, the trap just sends the water down the drain. When will the toilet makers get a clue?

I'm keeping the toilet I have - I'd rather deal with it being lower than I prefer, than deal with having to flush and flush and flush until the solid waste gets rinsed off the porcelain. How does THAT "save" water????

Answer:
There is a white vertical tube on the right side of the tank. Make sure that the circular ring is tightly on top of it. If not, then the water that is supposed to go into the BOW:L will go into the TANK instead , and you wind up with low BOWL water level and your complaint. :-)

Hello, my name is Leah with KOHLER Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your toilet question.
I apologize you were unable to find the information you were looking for. The Highline toilet, model 45979-0, will have a water height that measures 5.5 inches. This measurement is taken from the rim down to the top of the water surface, perhaps you can compare this to you existing toilet to see if it meets your preference. Additionally when the toilet is flushed, water will come from opening around the full 360 degrees of the rim to clean the sides of the bowl from use.
Please work with your local Home Depot for pricing and availability on this product.
Thank you for choosing the Bold Look of KOHLER.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's supposed to Installed last week and it works great. Came with everything needed to install although I decided to add a braided stainless steel flex hose for the water line with built in shut off valve to make things easier. We like it so much, we're going to get 2 more this weekend. May 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great toilet and great price.Wish it was in store so I didn't have to pay shipping. I had two toilets in my home and one was this one. The other was a huge water waster. i already liked this one so bought another to replace the bad one. It is a very good toilet and works as advertized. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I like it Was installed three day ago. it looks beautiful. Did not expect that it will be that good. Takes much less water to flush, than it was. Moreover, it is quiet. I like it July 19, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It splashes! The toilet looks nice and dual flush does the job, however every single time you flush the toilet, it splashes! The water (and or other stuff) splashes with such pressure that it gets outside of the toilet and on the floor. It's quite disgusting and completely unexpected. I'm embarrassed having it in my guest bathroom. I tried flushing slowly and carefully - and it helps a bit, but I cannot tell my guests to follow instructions when flushing the toilet! The bottom line is I recommend looking for some other toilet and not buying this one. May 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The #2 of toilets! I did a lot of research on toilets before thinking about purchasing this one. I've read countless reviews about this toilet and hoped that the positive comments here were right, hoping that all the negative ones were from people that just got defective toilets. Nope. First off, the dual flush system works well with liquids and "regular"-sized BMs, so if that's what you and your family only make then this toilet should be fine I guess. But if you or anyone else in your family makes anything bigger than a "regular"-sized BM: Good luck. Seriously. Healthy-sized BMs will clog this thing up in no time. As someone said earlier, regular plungers are NOT effective with this toilet. They can't make a seal over the toilet hole because of its weird shape. I've tried using both a toilet plunger with the flap and an accordion-style plunger. After an hour of using these, I still couldn't unclog this thing! So if for whatever reason you still want to buy this thing, remember to pick up a toilet snake/auger with it! I bought this thing to replace a 20+ year old toilet that used way too much water and would clog all the time, hoping that I would be able to save some money and time with a new water-efficient toilet. When this clogs, I end up flushing so much water and time down the toilet! I end up spending more time trying to use a snake to fix the clog than when I just needed a simple plunger to unclog our old toilet. The installation was OK considering this was our first time. The included wax ring was too short for our flange so we needed to buy an extra large one. I'll admit that this wasn't Home Depot's or Kohler's fault. Our house is a bit old so the installation took a lot longer than expected. The toilet was a bit wobbly so consider some plastic shims if you've got tiled floors. In short, please only consider this toilet if your household only makes liquids and "regular"-sized BMs all the time and this thing is on sale. Otherwise, look elsewhere. I got this at normal price and feel like I could have got a decent toilet for half the price that performs the same as this one. It's pretty though, I guess. July 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good First piece i got from home depot was faulty as tank was leaking. Second piece is good. I will recommend this product. June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Toilet Very nice appearance. Very good working toilet. Like the two option flush. Toilet seat too cheap for this model. Flexes when you sit in it. Only complaint May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleased with my purchase Very pleased with this purchase. Bought 3 of these to replace all existing toilets in the house. Would recommend to others. April 27, 2016
