loose handle - can't find set screw

I've read all the notes about tightening the handle. I pushed the handle all the way up and still don't see or feel a set screw. Is it new the surface as my allen wrench goes back a good 1/2' before it hits anything. Any tips appreciated. Also, I saw one bulletin about a repair kit....anyone know how to get that?

I had this same problem with this same faucet that's approximately 9 months old. I was able to fix this issue without contacting Kohler. For me, this problem presented as a loose handle that eventually just fell off. Now, I know less than nothing about plumbing projects; my friend installed this faucet for me, so I was a little nervous here. I went back to Home Depot and they told me what a "set screw" was. With the handle screwed off, I can see the set screw. I am an avid builder of IKEA furniture, ergo I have several sizes of Allen Wrenches. Forget the Allen Wrench, it's not very helpful. I also am an avid builder of computers. As such, I had a computer-building screw and tool set. I tried several screw bits from that, and DING! One worked. The 2.5 Flat-head bit works like a charm. If you can get your hands on one of these bad boys, here's what you do. With the handle off the faucet, stick the screw bit through the little hole and into the set screw. Turn it a little to make sure it fits (on my model it fit perfectly, I'm not sure how they "redesigned" it). Then, screw the handle back on the faucet. Once it's screwed all the way in, turn the water on high. Stick the screw bit in there at a slightly upward angle, it's not a perfect right angle, and fidget around until you can turn it with resistance. Then tighten the heck out of it. Done. If yours is like mine, you will need this again. Mine loosens a couple times a month.

Why does the setscrew on the handle not stay tight?

Asked by: lamnob
THE SCREW LOOSENS BECAUSE THE HANDLE IS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE BEEN TIGHTENING MY OWN SCREW ON THIS FAUCET, UNFORTUNATELY, FOR MONTHS NOW. THE ONLY OPTION THAT I SEE IS TO RETURN IT AND RE-INSTALL AN OTHER FAUCET. IF KOHLER HAS ADDRESSED THIS DEFECT THEN PERHAPS YOU COULD GET THE SAME FAUCET FOR REPLACEMENT BUT I WOULD CONTACT KOHLER FIRST TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET AN ANSWER AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE 'FIXED' THIS DEFECT IN THE HANDLE.

Loose Handle

I should have read the reviews before purchasing this faucet, I tried calling customer service & disconnected after 7 minutes on hold.. This is a waste of my time & money & will not be purchasing another Kohler faucet again... Now I have to take it apart & return it to home depot, since I already spent 2 hours online looking for a solution.. I'm done..

Shut the water valve off , tilt the handle all the way back. with a flashlight look in the hole and u will see the set screw The Allen wrench I used has no markings but it's a little bigger than 1/16 of an inch. I tightened it and it's fine. .i contacted Koehler and they are sending me a new handle

Handle will not tighten.

The handle keeps coming loose no matter how much I tighten the set screw. The threads on the cartridge stud are stripped. It does not look like any cartridge I have seen before. Is the handle supposed to screw on as well as tighten via the set screw? If the cartridge needs to be replaced, what part number is it?
Asked by: Loose
THE ONLY WAY TO TIGHTEN THIS HANDLE IS TO USE THE ALLEN WRENCH THAT CAME WITH IT OR USE ANOTHER YOU MAY HAVE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT KNOW THE SIZE BUT THE ONE I HAVE IS VERY SMALL. IN ORDER TO TIGHTEN THIS HANDLE YOU MUST PUT THE HANDLE IN THE 'UP' POSITION WITH THE WATER 'ON'. THEN YOU MUST FIND THE HOLE WHICH THE ALLEN WRENCH WILL FIT INTO. IN ORDER TO FIND THE HOLE YOU MUST HAVE THE WRENCH IN AN UP 45 DEGREE ANGLE (I THINK..GEOMETRY NOT MY FORTE') AND THEN EVENTUALLY, IF YOU'RE PATIENT, YOU WILL FIND THE HOLE WITH THE WRENCH. WITH PRACTICE, LIKE I HAVE DONE FOR MONTHS NOW, YOU WILL BECOME AN EXPERT. THE BETTER SOLUTION, AS IT WILL NOT REPAIR ITSELF, IS TO EXCHANGE THIS DEFECTIVE FAUCET WITH ANOTHER.

When it was ready to fall off found it was redesigned because of a known flaw. Kohler will replace for free. Beware the included Allen wrench (5/32) for the set screw is bigger than the one required (3/32) for the old set screw. It's only been a couple weeks since reinstalling but so far so good.

Beautiful look but even after receiving a repair kit from Kohler the handle still comes loose. We only have two adults in our household so it's not from grabbing the handle too hard or using it constantly. Finish hides water spots, unlike my Kohler bathroom fixtures, but that's another review, but I just can't believe Kohler can't figure out a permanent solution to the handle issue. I've owned the for one year and will be looking for a replacement Very disappointing

We bought it in 2015 and had the loose handle problem. Kohler sent the replacement kit, which worked for a little while, but then the handle came loose again. We had a plumber tighten it a few months ago, but now it is loose once more. It appears to be unfixable, and it has really shaken my trust of this brand.

I was wandering through Home Depot one day, I saw the facet on the clearance rack. I did not know if I could install it my self, but, bought it anyway. It was a great price. I got home. Had the old one out and the new one installed in a couple of hours. And have had no problems so far. I just wish I had bought the other one for my daughter.

Have to tighten screw (which isn't so easy) almost every 3rd day as it loosens with each use! If you don't tighten this screw with the allen wrench it will eventually just fall off. I read Kohler is aware of this DEFECT and has not addressed it properly or at all, including my lengthy email I sent to them regarding this defective handle over 3 months ago. Unfortunately, I am a procrastinator and am finding it difficult to schedule a plumber to re-install as well as going to the store to get another replacement faucet. Therefore, I have been dealing with this problem for months now. The handle will work fine for a day or so and then slowly loosens each time you use it. I really liked the style and functionality of this faucet when it is not loose but this need to tighten the screw every few days is quite annoying. I purchased a $25K kitchen(INNERMOST) from Home Depot and had my own installer for all. I plan to return this defective faucet ASAP.
