Questions & Answers

why doesn't seat stay up?

you must hold seat up for a minute or it will immediately come down. I have never had this happen with a seat before, no matter what the price.
Asked by: whatswiththat
The Kohler seat close mechanism requires that the seat be further back up right than the toilet tank top allows. The tank top sticks out too far. Other soft close seats will work.

Can the seat be easily removed or is it separate?

I need to install a K-4737 toilet seat on it.
Asked by: elcubano
The seat comes separately in the box. It's easy to install and remove with a flat or phillips screwdriver. The nuts are plastic and have a wing so you can tighten with your hand only.

Can the gpf be adjusted? The description states 1.28 -1.59

Asked by: Jean
The GPF variation is due to a graduated flush, which is regulated by how long the operator holds down the handle. Under normal conditions, one short, flush is sufficient to handle most "usage", though if a user has an extended visit, holding the handle down longer will allow for additional flushing action in order to properly expell the bowl of any extral large deposits. As always, prudent use of toilet tissue is helpful and good for the envirionment. Hope this was helpful.

The AquaPiston inlet portion would not shut off, the float would not turn off the water coming in and it constantly ran. The float is cheap plastic. I'll go back to Home Depot for replacement parts. Disappointed with the quality. Interestingly, the plumber said he's seen this before in Kohler toilets. Wish I'd known that before.

It's called a single flush, but press and release and it flushes liquids well and uses 1/4 tank. Press and hold for solids and you can empty the tank. Adjustable tank screws to ensure the tank is perfectly level. A very nice design that complements the theme of our bathroom. I would easily give this toilet five stars except for two things: 1. I expected a better seat. The one provided is light plastic and feels flimsy. 2. The base was not perfectly flat. My 3' bubble level shows the bowl is level, and the floor is level, but the left front corner of the base is about 3/16" not flat to the floor (click on the picture). It's nice and flat all the way around except for that corner, which I didn't detect when I inspected the box at Home Depot. I'm not taking it back out for a minor cosmetic issue, a good caulking will cover it up. Still, I feel a $360 Kohler should be better than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite impressed Bought this toilet to replace an old (but still 1.6 gpf) toilet that was plugging regularly and had an annoying tank fill leak. I was worried about what the flushing performance would be on this toilet, given the poor experience I've had even with highly rated (Consumer Reports) toilets in the past, and newer toilets generally -- as well as complaints I've seen about Kohler's class 5 flush. But this was an attractive design, and reviews of it's flush seemed positive, so I decided to give it a try. First and foremost, I'm very impressed with the flush on this toilet: 1) It is much quieter than other new style toilets I have installed. 2) The "half-flush" (press and release lever) reliably clears liquids. (Other new style toilets I have tried have not.) 3) The full flush (press and hold lever) has reliably cleared solids. 4) Bowl wash seems to be quite good. All in all, very good. I've seen complaints that this toilet is listed as a 12" rough in, but leaves considerably more space between it and the wall behind it than other 12" rough ins. That's probably true, but I didn't consider this to be a bad thing. I've had toilets where it was a struggle to get the tank installed, because it was pressed tightly against the wall. (A potential issue if you have a wall covering of any thickness.) I was happy not to have that problem. Also, the tank cover has a rim that will prevent items from slipping off the back, so I think it's really not a matter of concern. (It's nice that the tank cover is flat, and with that rim, is suitable for placing items without worrying they will slip off.) I purchased an enameled wood seat; but the plastic seat it came with is actually quite sturdy. If I had known that in advance, I might have just used the included seat, instead. My only real complaint is regarding the install. Overall, it was fairly easy; however, there were no instructions in the box, I had to go online. The in-tank fill tube had become detached, and I had to guess where it was supposed to go, even after finding the instructions online. Also, I had to work to try to get the tank level, and never did quite get it there (it tilts forward slightly), but managed to get it fairly close after loosening the front bolts a bit. (This, together with probably insufficient ballast int he float, was initially causing the toilet to periodically run briefly post flush.) Finally, the tank fills slower than my old toilet -- an issue only in that I'm used to hearing the tank stop filling fairly quickly, and now have to get used to hearing it go on for a while (after a full flush). But all in all, I'm quite pleased with this toilet, and certainly recommend it.

And then, after one month it started needing constant adjustment. We even paid a plumber to adjust it and sadly it often res for as long as five minutes after each flush. The toilet was installed in March 2016 and the seat has already broken. We were told by the local Home Depot store where we purchased it that without the receipt and box, there was nothing to be done. I have been an ardent fan of HD for 20 years, but this purchase has changed my viewpoint toward both Home Depot and the quality of Kohler. Disappointing performance and I would not buy this item.
