Is the stem in the swivel wall bracket supposed to swivel so that the arm can be raised from 3:00 to 12:00? Mine is tighter than a drum and will not.

Answer:
I think you have to loosen the screw/bolt that runs the length of the pivot arm. However, there are no stops, so the arm is bound to work loose. Fatal design flaw.

Actually the "stem" does NOT move. I went ahead and installed it, and it works perfectly. Please disregard all the information from the HD rep tomorrow, and just install -- 5 minutes, VOILA, it works :).

Thank you for your inquiry. This could be due to several factors, including:
1. Installation - Before the unit is installed, it will appear that the left bracket does not rotate. This is due to the product needing to be installed for proper leverage. It is necessary to use the provided template for proper spacing to make sure the arm rests properly on its stop, which is located on the right cover. I see a contributor wrote that he did not like the look of the gap between the arm and the bracket and indicated drilling 1/16" closer than the template. This could result in the arm being too tight against the bracket.
2. Initial resistance - Sometimes, it may take a few operations to loosen the arm from its initial assembly.
3. Bracket issue - In your case, since your arm is not moving, you may want to replace the bracket. The current bracket part number is 1150975. A faulty bracket is probably least likely, but please feel free to contact KOHLER customer service if needed. Sorry to hear about your issue, and thank you again.

I think we all understand that the arm should simply lift up but what if it mechanically can't?

Answer:
The screw on the back of the swival arm bracket is too tight. My first repair I had done at the Home Depot Tool Rental. They placed it in a vise and used a power drill with #2 screw bit to loosen it slightly. Made all the difference in the world. I did the same to the other two I was installing.

The whole left side rotates CCW which raises the bar. It has a different bracket from the other side. It sits away from the wall about an 1/8 inch for clearance. I thought I had messed up the install until I realized it had to be that way.

Thank you for your inquiry. The best visual we have available is found under MORE INFO on the product page. If you open the installation instruction document, you can refer to the parts breakdown where you can see the wall-mount brackets (also called wall plates) are physically different. The wall bracket for the left-hand side (part number is 1150975) is designed to swivel, so the entire left-hand side (including the arm that holds the tissue) will rotate to a 12 o’clock position to allow you to slide the previous roll off and change the paper. Perhaps the two wall brackets were mixed up, and the stationary wall bracket (part number 1145789) that is supposed to be to the right was installed on the left-hand side, making it physically impossible to rotate and lift the arm. Answer:
This is a design flaw. The pivot arm is attached by a long screw/bolt which has to be loosened. But there is no stop, so it will come loose fairly quickly. Take it back, it's a faulty product.

Yes. Rotates CCW from 3:00 to a little beyond 12:00, maybe 11:00. Make sure you didn't reverse the mounting hardware. Not sure if that is possible, but it is the only thing I can think to check. Hope this helps.

I see that is an old question, but others may have it. I didn't see how to take the short end bracket out to get started for mounting. There is a small Allen screw holding it (hole on the side).

Thank you for your inquiry. The toilet paper holder is attached to a plate which attaches to the wall with a set screw. The brackets and bar do not need to be seperated.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 30 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Breezy! We like this toilet paper holder so much that we're installing it in all bathrooms, not just the one that needed a replacement. Switching toilet paper rolls is incredibly easy, simply lift the rod and voila! We no longer need to mess with those unruly springs...whew. August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product to match the other one in master bathroom Very easy to mount holder came with template and would buy this if I were you great quality. July 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice product This was a matching item for our bathroom and really ties the bathroom together. Easy install June 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It works I bought this holder before reading the reviews. Those scared me. I am a 72 year old woman, not terribly tool using-efficient. But since several reviewers reported no trouble, I decided to go for it. I was mounting on the side of a cabinet & used the dry wall inserts, as recommended by Kohler. These were my only problem (as I said not too tool friendly). I used the template, my picture hanging laser level, marked carefully, drilled the holes, finally got the plates/screws in, placed the holder on as instructed, and it works perfectly. Don't overthink, or pre-analyze it. As another reviewer said - just follow the instructions. There is nothing wrong with the design. November 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by You need a little handiness to make it work I threw away the horrible hardware that came with this as I do most things. You need to use the screw in anchors which work perfectly. Once you do this this holder works flawlessly. I love it. If you have a little know how ignore the rest of these comments> this is a beautiful piece of bathroom hardware. January 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Be careful when installing This holder looks great, I love the design, however my husband swears that the template they include is about a half-inch off, so beware when installing! It was a tricky one. Also probably the biggest toilet paper holder I've ever seen! January 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Classic Look I was about to return it to Home Depot ( I work as a associate at Plumbing - Kitchen & Bath department at Home Depot in Portland- OR Airport Store, I sell this product to customers, even I asked my colleague who is Certified plumber DAN to show how it works ) First when I tried to install it, still I had hard time figuring it out. So went over customer review about this product to look for a video, still unable to figure things out. I just installed all given screws and accessories. IT WORKED THE WAY IT DESIGNED. No manufacturing or design flaw. We got to believe in KOHLER. Great Product , great design, fancy looking, Elegant in Style. My wife and I love it. July 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by NICE, BUT... I had read reviews on this item (Home Depot and elsewhere) and I was ready for a challenge installing it. And a challenge is exactly what I got. I found the directions sketchy and confusing, but I figured it out in a couple of hours. I like it, but it was a pain to install. November 19, 2015
