Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry.
No, the 702012-l-sh will not work for a 40 1/2 inch opening. I would recommend the 702013-l-sh, which has a height of 72, and an opening width of 39 - 42 inches.

Rated 1.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MISSING PARTS THE PRODUCT WAS RECEIVED WITHOUT BREAKAGE BUT WHEN THE INSTALL MAN CAME HE FOUND PARTS MISSING. HE INSTALLED ANYWAY BUT NOW I MUST CALL THE COMPANY TO GET THE MISSING PARTS SO I DON'T GET WATER ALL OVER THE FLOOR WHEN SHOWERING. FRUSTRATING! June 4, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by alot of cheap for the money installation was fairly easy. cheap looking, did not extend as far as stated in specifications. would go with a different door next time. January 9, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by for engineers only This shower door comes without instructions, only an installation guide, and for a good reason - it comes as a package of components and you have to finish the engineering yourself. Even then, the "guide" is poorly written and contains many errors. Now few specifics : - it takes half hour to remove the shrink wrap film from the glossy plastic parts - the supposedly included drill bit is actually not included - the door design did not consider that shower steps are sloped - much of the hardware is actually cheap looking plastic, extrusions come with many surface flaws and scratches - the included plastic anchors are good for 1/2" depth, just enough to grip a tile and rip it off the wall - this door is not suitable for wood framing / drywall / tile, unless you are lucky and hit a stud. If not, prepare to do some additional engineering - there is no provision for attaching one end of the threshold, except by silicone gluing it to the tiles The only thing "bold" about this Kohler product is its price. Ok, it was an experiment. I expected the best, as advertized, and received mediocre. The job is done, but I will avoid Kohler products in the future. February 8, 2009
