I had to rebuild my shower stall after my fiberglass shower started breaking at the bottom of the pan. I am a bigger guy and not wanting to have to fix this again I opted for this cast iron pan. Installation required more effort than I wanted but I really wanted to make this work. I had to build out from the studs so the cement board and tiles had clearance over the lip. As far as cleaning just using some bathroom cleaner and a magic eraser just a few mins of work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sebastian I love this: the touch, the feeling and the Bold look!
This is a very special product for the people whose heart and soul are in the shower and enjoy it, with the special feeling which cannot be narrated in few words, you have to experience it. It does have the mesmerizing feeling.
This 48-inch x 36 inch rectangular cast iron shower pan is of very high quality and has very durable baked in enamel coating, which also has a very sophisticated slip resistant texture for added safety and convenience. The usable space is around 42 inches length and 28 inches wide for stand up shower.
I believe it is of very high quality and virtually unbreakable, and that is the reason Kohler gives a limited lifetime warranty for this product as long as you own it.
I love this: the touch, the feeling and the Bold look.

Almost all shower pans you will find today are either cheap acrylic or fiberglass. They are light weight, and if you are not very careful, they will crack. And no matter what, they will yellow with age. For that reason, many people today resort to making their shower floor out of tile. That is a lot of work, difficult to get done just right, and sooner or later will need repair work. Back in the old days, makers of bath tubs and shower pans made them out of cast iron with a porcelain coating, and those products lasted forever, with almost no maintenance needed whatsoever. As far as I know, only one company still makes such a quality shower pan, and that is Kohler. Three years ago, I bought one from Kohler for our main bathroom, and I have never regretted that purchase decision one little bit, and am so glad that I did. It still looks as beautiful as the day it was installed. Just clean it and forget it, except who could forget such a beautiful, tough, long-lasting piece of craftsmanship? My son bought one of those cheap acrylic shower pans for his house, and already needs to replace his, just two years later, because it cracked. My Kohler cast iron shower pan will still be solid and beautiful long after I am dead and gone! Yes, it cost more than one of those cheap ones, but it is an investment in a product that will never need replaced. How many of those cheap pans will my son go through in his lifetime, and how much will he spend re-doing his shower tile walls in order to remove and replace those cheap pans? Even if someday I do remodel my main bathroom, that beautiful Kohler cast iron shower pan is one thing that won't need replaced! I just ordered this Kohler Purist 48 Inch X 36 Inch Shower Receptor In White from Home Depot, and it just arrived. The packaging was just as good as the first one I got from Kohler, and yes, it is very heavy! You will need to get yourself a few friends to help you install it, but once it is in place, you'll never be sorry that you spent the money on this quality product! The iron is thick and well cast, and the porcelain finish is impeccable and made to last. Home Depot can have it shipped directly to your house, and it will arrive well-crated on a pallet. You'll need to buy a shower drain for it, and perhaps some shims to make sure you have it level, and most certainly you'll need some friends to help you carry and install it into place. But, you'll never regret that you invested in the future of your home, and bought the best there is! Thanks Kohler, and Home Depot!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Brian Nice shower base
This product has been around for a long while, long enough that Kohler has already discontinued many of the "add-ons" to make it even better. This is a heavy enameled cast iron shower base that can be installed with a curb or recessed into the floor if your existing structure will allow it which is something you should determine with a licensed engineer before notching out the top of floor joists. The receptor is manufactured in China but it is no lesser quality than you would expect from Kohler. The finish is flawless even though it is basically shipped mostly unprotected in a perimeter crate that just protects the edges. As I mentioned, it is HEAVY and weight 150lbs+ so be sure you have some extra hands to move it around. Most of the fixtures in my home are Kohler enameled cast iron because they do last and more over with this shower base in an area that will see daily use. It can be cold on the feet if the shower is located on an exterior wall...draft-stopping and insulation would be important items to consider during install. I generally love this product and do wish some of the add-ons were still available but at a cheaper price point from the previous market. The one selling point in comparison to a fiberglass or Acrylic unit is that it does not feel like you are stepping into a cheap RV shower. Take a close look at the specs, plan a design that may incorporate it and give it a go. Plan on freight delivery and a wait period.

The Kohler Purist 48 in. x 36 in. Single-Threshold Shower Receptor in White is a rock solid chunk of cast iron looking for a 'forever home'. This single-threshold shower receptor is serious business and will likely outlast the average person by many lifetimes. The cast base arrives via palleted-pallet which was sufficient protection to get it to me in one piece. The color is vibrant white and the enamel appears to be of a very high quality. Installation is very straight forward. Documentation is extremely well written and easy to follow. This is a single threshold unit that requires some sort of alcove (3 walls). In my case the one wall was a knee-wall with an additional 2 pieces of custom glass while the standard installation speaks to 3 full walls and a glass door on the front (48'') long side for entry. I would highly recommend this product as it is well beyond the quality of a non-cast iron shower base. Did I mention this thing will last forever... (*** it would be best to have some friends around to assist with moving the base for installation - it is a beast)

This is the most amazing shower receptor I have ever seen. It is extremely well made and has a great feel to it. Smooth and non Slippery surface. It is extremely heavy so be prepared when you do receive it. It is a pleasure to step into the shower and feel the sturdiness beneath your feet and the smooth base. I highly recommend this product it is well worth the money.

I have to echo the other reviews of this shower floor - this thing is HEAVY! But that's not a bad thing...in fact, due to it's construction I expect this to outlast our time in the house. It looks great and it feels great, too - none of that flexing that's so common in the fiberglass or acrylic versions. I didn't give it an "excellent" for easy of installation simply because of the weight - but that's not to paint a negative, just to exemplify that it's not easy to lift/move.

I made the mistake of thinking a full custom tiled shower floor was cheaper than forking over the money for this shower pan. I am sure the extra cost in labor would have made this a break even. Maybe my contractor was slow. Knowing what I know now I would have used this the first time around had I seen it in the store and had more knowledge of the labor involved with a custom tiled shower floor.
After 3 years of the tile shower being completed I am replacing the tile floor with this because I am tired of cleaning it. This pan is amazing. Its very well built. No flaws in the enamel. The cast iron is heavy duty. It will clean as easily as your bathtub.
As other reviewers have stated this is very heavy. A two person job to move into place. Comes delivered on a pallet. My delivery person wheeled it up to the house.
If your a DIYer I would recommend this over a tile floor for ease of installation as the floor can be the hardest part to get right. Any ripples or wrong angles in the tile will allow water to sit and get the grout grungy. I am sure my contractor was not good but even with a good tile job I would take this simply because of the clean look and less maintenance.
Definitely make sure you adequately compare the full cost of installing a pan vs tile!
