Product Overview

This Rite-Temp pressure-balancing valve works behind the scenes to prevent scalding and freezing for a safe, comfortable water supply. The valve features a high-temperature limit stop and an optimal comfort zone, so you can set a maximum high and then find and maintain your desired water temperature. The diaphragm design virtually eliminates freeze-ups from contamination and water debris. This valve integrates a diverter mechanism for seamless actuation of a handshower/showerhead application OR a showerhead/tub spout application. Finally, universal NPT and direct sweat connections need no additional parts for installation.

  • Back-to-back installation is ideal for unique or high-volume jobs
  • Large internal ports allow quick bath filling
  • Provides anti-scald protection and temperature regulation at flow rates as low as 1.75 gpm; far below federally mandated standards of 2.5 gpm
  • Lifetime limited warranty

What is the part number and price for the trim set in Vibrant Brushed Nickel for the K-11748-K Rite-Temp valve with diverter? Since I am not installing a tub with a tub spout and the integral diverter I only need the trim set for the valve.

Hello, my name is April with KOHLER Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your faucet question.
For Model # K-11748-K-NA there are many trims that are compatible for this valve, however if you are not installing a tub and it is just a shower unit this would not be the recommended valve. I would suggest the K-304-K-NA for just a simple shower head. For additional assistance on this inquiry, Read More

Why not use a K-9530-BN diverter instead of the K-728-K-NA transfer valve plus trim?

Is there a reason not use a K-9530-BN diverter and wall mount it instead of the K-728-K-NA transfer valve plus the K-T12189-4-BN trim? The K-9530 spec sheet says it is for bath or deck mount and I only need two outputs: showerhead and handshower. The K-9530-BN comes with the trim and I believe would cost less than the transfer valve plus trim.

If you choose to install only the K-9530-BN as a wall mount diverter and not use the K-728-K-NA, it will limit your functions. This will only allow you to use either the shower head or the hand shower at separate times. If you turn the water on the water will come out of the shower head and if you want to divert the water to the handshower you would push the button; however if you want to divert the water back to the shower head, you will need to turn the water off and turn back on. If you install only the K-728-K-NA plus the trim K-T12189-4-BN this will allow you to divert and transfer water to either the shower head or hand held without having to turn the water off and it will also allow you to use both at the same time.

The installation now only has a handshower and slide bar with a K-304-K shower valve. To add a wall-mount showerhead and keep the handshower, a diverter is needed. Kohler verified that they don't make a trim set in the Fairfax series for the K-11748-K-NA valve with the integral diverter. The option is to add a separate K-9530-BN diverter to allow the handshower or wall-mount showerhead to be selected..

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great valve I installed this valve as part of a bathroom remodel and used a corresponding Artifacts trim. It was packaged well and the diverter button and valve stem were well protected. Directions were easy to follow and I mounted the valve on a scrap 2x4. There is on hole on the plastic valve surround to screw it in. I wish I used a bolt in case the valve has to be replaced in the future since the screw will be near impossible to remove. I followed the directions and mounted it at a good depth for the lever to later attach. I later realized that the lever has several adapters to accommodate any mistakes, so don't go too crazy on how deep the valve is in the wall. I plumbed it with PEX, copper and SharkBite fittings. I attached 1/2" SharkBite female adapters to valve and it was 'plug and play' from there. I wanted to go with all copper but the hot and cold pipes coming from the floor were at weird angles and I needed the bend in PEX. The instructions tell you where to mount the tub spout and shower arm. I turned the water back on and the valve worked smoothly. I capped the tub spout and shower arm and let them pressure-test for the remaining three weeks of reno. We have been showering for a few weeks and I adjusted the temperature twice. I ended up turning it all the way up because out hot water varies on what other appliances are running. Adjusting the temperature is easy but it is very sensitive. With that, the last little bit of turn in the valve is a drastic change in hot. The valve defaults to the tub spout and suppressing the diverter button is a smooth transition to the shower head. The pressure we get out of the matching Artifacts shower head is good with a 1/2" pipe but I wish there was a way in the valve to adjust that with the lever and trim kit. Otherwise we love it March 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not work properly Before the diverter is pressed water comes out of the shower head. Installation was difficult due to the poor design and quality of materials. The plastic parts did not fit properly and I could not install the handle. I finally had to rig it to make it fit. February 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great No issues -- good temperature range and flow. Arrived timely and in good condition. March 11, 2014
