Steve, Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your faucet question. The width of the shaft is 1-5/16"; the whole needs to be slightly larger than the diameter of the shaft. Thank you for choosing The Bold Look of KOHLER.

Answer:
Hello, my name is Jay with KOHLER Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your faucet question.
The spout on the 597-VS can rotate 360 degrees. So would need at least 8” of clearance if you want to use that function. For additional assistance on this inquiry, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-4KOHLER. (1-800-456-4537)

I am really disappointed with Kohler and HD. You see this is the second Kohler Simplice that we have ordered within the last few weeks. The first one was the little larger one (forgot the model #). When we received the first one, it was filthy. I do believe it was a returned item, just repackaged. The second one is just as filthy, it even has water dripping out of it. Now unless Kohler has decided to test drive these units, which I doubt, this is definitely a returned item. That is 2 for 2. Sorry no 3 tries here. It will be going back today.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Faucet, But Broken Piece, Bad Packaging Are Drawbacks Our contractor installed the faucet and noticed that the cartridge was broken, so our brand new faucet sits, installed, leaking away as we wait for Koehler to send us a replacement part. I'm not sure if the part broke during shipping, or if it was already defective. It would really be nice if the product worked right out of the box. The faucet looks great, has great pressure and the pull down spout locks back in place. However, I don't like the lever. It doesn't have a wide enough range of motion, so you have to be precise and controlled when turning it on to get just the right amount of water. Our kids have a bit of a hard time with it. It's either full blast or nothing at all. It takes some getting used to, as you need to actually use some force to be able to control the lever. This is the downside to ordering online--you don't get to actually touch, feel and try out the product. Again, it just takes some getting used to. But at $260, i expect the product to be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this faucet Have had this faucet in stainless for 9 years and love it! I have the large size for our main kitchen sink and the smaller version for the prep sink. We're moving and I'm definitely getting these for our new house, which we'll be remodeling!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Faucet This faucet looks great and operates very well. The magnetic hold of the faucet head is an excellent feature. The faucet is easy to install in a short period of time. We have received many favorable comments from friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Faucet I love this faucet. It is easy to use and looks great. The water pressure is a little bit weaker than I would like, but the features (pull down faucet and spray function) are fabulous!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect purchase This Kohler faucet purchased on-line in stainless is the perfect purchase. The size is a bit smaller than the one carried in the store and fits well in our smaller kitchen. It looks perfect with our 30" sink and isn't too tall for our kitchen window but is great for filling tall pots. The handle (which is just the right size for any hand) works smoothly and easily and can be installed for either right or left handed use. The faucet swivles from side to side as needed; and the pull out sprayhead gives exceptional length for filling items outside of the sink. Our favorite feature is the pause feature on the sprayer. Rather than always having the water flow, there is a pause button for use when moving the sprayhead without spraying water everywhere. All in all, we are very pleased with this faucet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and Functional A beautiful faucet that works great. The pull-down sprayer feature is as handy as it gets. The plumber loved it, too! One thing you will have to ponder is where to put the handle. We put it on the right, like the picture, but I noticed right away that when you turn off the water you will leave drops of water from your wet hand on your counter top. A better handle placement might be right in front but I will leave it up to you where you want to put it. Also, the plumber recommended NOT putting on the weight that helps the pull-out sprayer go back up as eventually the little retainer ring will get roughed up. Believe me when I tell you that it's not a problem leaving it off. Speaking of the pull-out sprayer, it has already proved its worth during our yearly Xmas party during clean up. Combine this with a Kohler sink for a nice overall effect!
