Answer:
I don't see why not. I mounted my faucet without the deck plate. I think the plate is for a choice of aesthetics or perhaps it covers other holes previously drilled in the counter top.

Answer:
Absolutely! The base plate has no real function other than when used as a replacement faucet where more than one hole was used with the old faucet. In that instance, it is used to cover the old holes.

This is a general Kohler question. Do you have to hold down the pause button or can you press it and use both hands to do other things while the water flow is paused?

Also, some of the Kohler faucets have flow control and some do not (which I find almost hard to believe). How do I know which ones have it? Is there a another name for "flow control" that I can look for in the specs?

Answer:
I don't think this Kohler rep is giving correct or complete answers. There are a few size differences between the two models. We learned this the hard way. 597 is smaller. This is according to the PDFs you can view on the Kohler web site, which I assume are reliable. Go to the product page and find the link for Rough In/Spec Sheet. You'll get so much more than when you use Home Depot's site.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 27 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this Faucet I love this faucet. It is easy to use and looks great. The water pressure is a little bit weaker than I would like, but the features (pull down faucet and spray function) are fabulous! September 6, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Looking Faucet, But Broken Piece, Bad Packaging Are Drawbacks Our contractor installed the faucet and noticed that the cartridge was broken, so our brand new faucet sits, installed, leaking away as we wait for Koehler to send us a replacement part. I'm not sure if the part broke during shipping, or if it was already defective. It would really be nice if the product worked right out of the box. The faucet looks great, has great pressure and the pull down spout locks back in place. However, I don't like the lever. It doesn't have a wide enough range of motion, so you have to be precise and controlled when turning it on to get just the right amount of water. Our kids have a bit of a hard time with it. It's either full blast or nothing at all. It takes some getting used to, as you need to actually use some force to be able to control the lever. This is the downside to ordering online--you don't get to actually touch, feel and try out the product. Again, it just takes some getting used to. But at $260, i expect the product to be better. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Choice Looks very nice. Was easy to install. Temperature control is easy but It is sort of difficult to control partial flow due to short travel of the handle. Sprayer produces a bit of mist that wets the counter around it. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great choice Perfect replacement for an older kitchen faucets, great style. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Great product, been disappointed with other products but not this brand October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good kitchen faucet easy to install, took twice as long to get the old one out June 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kitchen faucet love it. Looks really cool. very sleek and modern looking. I wanted this faucet but the store didn't carry it but I had it shipped to my house. It was very convenient for me April 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wont honor lifetime warranty dont purchase I have managed 100s of units & the "lifetime warranty" is no good on commercial for any faucet brand. Kohler is the only brand to refuse replacement on my personal use faucet. Claiming cleaning (over spray) scrubbing bubbles damaged the brass/chrome finish. The finish was damaged because the faucet leaked & then the hard H20 damaged the finish. They refused to replace it. So much for lifetime warranty, purchased install approx 2008-claim refused 2014 November 4, 2014
