I'm definitely no expert and it was very easy. Just turn off and disconnect the supply line to the toilet. Empty the tank. Unscrew the bolts holding the tank to the bowl and remove it. Answer:
Hello doer, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
Turn off the water supply valve and flush the tank.
Then simply disconnect the water supply line to the tank.
Unscrew the 2 bolts that attach the tank to the bowl and turn it over.
Pull off the old seal and replace it with the new one.
Reassemble.
I hope this helps,
Chris.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Purchase Nothing like original equipment parts to do the job right. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Fine You'll know you need this gasket when water leaks out from between the tank and toilet when you flush the toilet. I tried tightening the tank bolts, but the leak continued. This tank gasket fit our Kohler toilet perfectly--as one would expect. The question I have is, why do they fail in the first place? I replaced one after about 7 years--and I replaced this one on a second toilet after 9 years. The old gaskets are not subject to much movement and both of the failed gaskets appeared to be intact--flattened and a little harder than the replacements, but with no visible cracks or gaps. Just life I guess--I have nothing better to do. :) The water supply to our toilet tank is flexible braided stainless steel so, after I drained the tank, I was able to sit the tank on a bucket adjacent to the toilet with the water supply still connected. I have heard of people breaking the tanks--so make sure it is not going to crash to the floor when you bump it! Oh--and thanks to Home Depot for stocking these. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fixed the leak! Bought a new house. Toilet was leaking between the tank and the base when flushed. Changed this gasket and the leak was gone. This was a pretty easy job overall. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really - rate a tank gasket!? one recent saturday afternoon, i realized my toilet was leaking water on to the bathroom floor. within an hour's time and the assistance of a handyman, we drove to home depot, i bought the thingy for under $10, he installed it and the toilet no longer leaks. it does what it is supposed to do. EXCELLENT! June 28, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's all good This was easy to install and worked perfectly. Now it tells me I must add more characters to my review so I am accomplishing that with this additional sentence. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as expected It seats and seals exactly as it should. Works flawlessly. July 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DryLock seal not so dry I have to replace this seal about ever two years. Seals for this toilet deteriorate over time and KOHLER has no idea why, but they are sorry. I have another cheap toilet brand in the house that has not needed a seal for over thirty years. Maybe some third party makes a seal for this tolet that works. The seal is hard for me to replace because the bolts need to be a little longer. February 4, 2015
