This is a nicely designed toilet, but my chief complaint with it is that it did not come with a seat. This toilet is high quality and sturdy, but for the price, Kohler should really provide a seat. The one in the photo was additional, which we had to get separately. Another concern was the connection of the tank to the bowl, which had a lot of gaskets, which I hope will not get in the way of the tank staying attached for a long time. My last concern is the elaborate shape of the toilet interior. Solid waste has a lot of areas to traverse before going down the drain, which creates additional surfaces to be cleaned. Almost too fancy.

We installed this Kohler Tresham toilet because it has a unique straight line, traditional look. We also like the 1.28 GPF feature and the comfort height. It arrived well packed and the instructions are sparse but adequate. I was pleased to find the internal tank components fully assembled and installed. The toilet bowl is well finished, fully glazed and seem to be of good quality. The install was a DIY replacement of a 17 year old standard elongated 1.6 GPF toilet and we had no problems. It should be noted that the toilet seat does not come with the toilet, we installed a Kohler transitions elongated seat but most standard elongated seats will fit this toilet. You will also have to buy a new wax seal; it does not come with the toilet. This is a long toilet with a large base; it completely covered the foot print of our old toilet, a big plus. We provided several pictures and a short demo film we hope they might help clarify any questions.

The Tresham Comfort Height 2 piece 1.28 GPF elongated toilet has a shaker style. The toilet coordinates with other products in the line and comes in 10 different colors. The aquaPiston canister design and seal eliminate leakage problems commonly associated with traditional rubber flappers. This is a watersense toilet that meets the EPA's strict flushing guidelines by using 20% less water.

I never looked at a toilet as a piece of sculpture, but this thing really is beautiful, especially compared to the one it replaced.
Installation is not difficult, you'll need a wrench or two, a scraper, and a wet/dry vacuum is very helpful. You don't need a plumber. Turn off the water on the old toilet, flush it, and then suck out the remaining water from the bowl and the tank with the vac. Undo the bolts holding the tank to the bowl, and remove the tank. Undo the bolts holding the bowl to the floor and remove the bowl. If you have a helper, you don't need to separate the bowl and tank, but together they are pretty heavy. Both these parts are likely to be very filthy, have some newspaper to set them on. Remove the old bolts from the floor flange and scrape it clean. The old toilet is now off. I'm not oversimplifying - it is that easy, although the rusty 50-year-old nuts on mine put up a bit of a fight. Installation is basically the reverse, but easier, since everything is new and dry and clean. Installing a toilet is one of those jobs that any homeowner can tackle. Took me about 90 minutes, most of it getting the old toilet off and the floor prepped.
Back to this toilet, as I said, it is really a piece of art, rather squarish with extra decorative angles. Despite being a low-flow toilet, it flushes strongly, but you have to hold the handle for a few seconds. The days of low-flow toilets not flushing properly are long gone - the problem was that initially the manufacturers simply grafted a smaller tank onto the same large bowl, and it didn't work. Comparing this toilet to the old one, the tank and bowl are both smaller in volume, but sized to each-other, so that the the tank flushes out the bowl completely. That said, this toilet is actually bigger and taller than the old one, and more comfortable to sit on.
The internal mechanism is a bit different. There is no flapper valve, it is more like a hollow column that lifts up, the "Aqua-Piston". Most of the problems I've had to fix with toilets were the flapper valve, so hopefully this is an improvement. On the other hand, the flapper valve is cheap part that is easy to install, this looks a lot more complicated. The filler and float are standard, if they ever need to be replaced. For installation, you'll also need a toilet flange gasket, I recommend one of the new neat foam ones rather than a messy old-fashioned wax ring. Finally, this toilet does not include a seat, so you have your choice of those.
All in all, if you're looking for a way to dress up a bathroom, this is it - a gleaming white porcelain masterpiece.

The first one arrived poorly packaged and upside down. I opened the box to find the bowl completely shattered. I contacted Kohler and they sent us a new one. This one came very well packaged and on a skid. I love the design mostly because we love shaker furniture. Even our kitchen is shaker. I guess what makes it shaker is the squared off look of the bowl base and the tank. Don't forget to pick up a wax ring and a toilet seat because they don't come with. That was a little disappointing because I have bought $150 toilets that came with both. The rough is is 12" so if your existing toilet is 11" it won't fit. Run a tape measure from the bolts to the back wall just to make sure before purchasing this toilet. You won't believe how much siphon is created when you flush this toilet. Everything goes right down very quickly. And it is activated by just a light touch. I also like the three bolt installation because the tank is heavy so you won't have to worry about leaning back on it. Believe it or not you will get complements from your guest on the looks and efficiency of this toilet.

This is a wonderful addition to our home. Very stylish, uses little water, gives complete flush.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DIY49 I never thought that a toilet could look great, until I installed this one.
This toilet looks and works great, plus the installation is easy for a DIY. Home Depot should have this model on the floor and in stock, as I am sure they would sell easily. Instead you have to do some reseach to find out that this model exists.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2Notsittingpretty Beautiful design BUT bolt holes not in right position & NOT sitting pretty
This toilet has a different and beautiful square floor design to match our brand new bathroom & square accessories, i.e., shower head, faucets, etc., but when the plumber installed it I noticed the seat I chose did not sit perfectly on the bowl so I mentioned it to him and he took it off and put it back on and then he called me back in and showed me that the toilet's bolt holes were not cut in the right position so that the seat will NOT sit on the bowl perfectly. Nothing I can do now because it's already installed.
