How does variable speed work?

This question is from 3/8 in. Heavy Duty Variable Speed Drill (Tool-Only)

I was wondering if this drill can be run without constantly de-pressing the trigger manually? I noticed there is a knob on the trigger, can that be turned to change the drills speed? I would like to use this drill as a stirring device, and I didn't want to constantly hold the trigger down.

Thanks

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by kawasaki drill this drill has a chuck key ... not cheapo hand tighten chuck September 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good drill! Very nice and compact design. We like the keyed chuck and the light weight. The only unusual feature is the variable switch is not on the trigger, but is a separate knob. The only reason for not giving this five stars is that we have only had it a short time, but we are very happy with it!!! May 12, 2015
