I want to try gardening using the earthbox concept but am having trouble finding the type growing media they recommend. If anyone has tried this mix in an earthbox I would like to hear how it worked for you.

Yes, last season, I used this potting mix in my City Pickers (very similar to Earthbox) for tomatoes and peppers and had very good results. As the Kellogg Garden rep mentioned, you'd want to increase water retention by mixing in some coir. (I might be willing to try the Moisture Pro mix they recommend, if I could find it. 1.5 cu. ft. Patio Plus Premium Outdoor Potting Mix is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and amazing value! I've purchased dozens of bags of Patio Plus over the past few years. The blend is always pretty consistent and I've had great success with flowers and vegetables. The price for a certified organic product is amazing and it has premium organic fertilizers in the mix like worm castings and kelp meal that the other brands don't have. The comparable potting mix at my local independent nursery is easily three times the price. Last year I stood a bag of this on end, poked a few holes in the bottom and planted a tomato plant right in the bag. That plant produced MORE than the plants in my raised beds! I had to add extra Kellogg granular fertilizer through the growing season, but it worked great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did well I'm a first time vegetable gardener. I used the Patio Plus potting soil to grow some Jalapeños, Poblano Peppers, Bell Peppers, and three types of Tomatoes (Sweet 100, Bush & Celebrity), in five gallon buckets. I was pleased with the results. They all did well. Good yield. I plan on using it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Subsitute for Fox Ocean Forrest. Not as good but worrks. I have been using Fox Farm Ocean Forest for many years. I go through several pallets a year. After comparing this to Fox, I found that it has less amendments and rich nutrients from the ocean but it makes up for it with Land Based Organics. Thing is, I planted a green house with this next to the Fox and I found that I needed to feed a little sooner with this than the Fox but that is about it. All other aspects of the soil are producing the same as the Fax for half the price. So there it is, This will work fine if you start your feeding schedule sooner. For my situation, it actually works out better for me in many ways. I have converted completely to Patio Plus this year. and I am now ordering several pallets for next years. Got to get it early. Great for all food and medical growing. GROW ORGANIC ONLY

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best soils Patio Plus is a really excellent soil with a heavy bark content. Bark doesn't break down as fast as peat, so your soil lasts a lot longer before needing to be replaced. If you're choosing between this and Miracle Gro, definitely choose Patio Plus. The picture is of my dozens of blackberries and raspberries planted in 15 gallon bags and Patio Plus. They were only baby bareroots just a few months ago, now they're over 6ft tall and packed with berries.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Kills Everything My wife tried planting some dill, tomato, and basil starts in the Patio Plus, as opposed to mixing our own soil, as we normally do. The first thing I noticed about the soil mix was how woody it is. Through my years of gardening, I have repeatedly heard warnings about using woody mulches and soil mixes, as wood that isn't aged enough locks up Nitrogen, a VERY necessary nutrient for growing plants. Everything she planted in the Kellogg mix sprouted, then stunted. And stayed like that for almost a month, without growing at all, until we scrapped it and went with our own organic soil mix, which has always worked wonders for us, if we're not being too lazy to mix! But, my own is what I'll be sticking with from now on....Aurora Green Fields soil mix is great stuff, too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good soil for the price I used this soil for the first time this past summer. It worked well. The only problems I noticed was mushrooms growing in one area of my garden and the soil does not seem to hold water as well as another soil I used. A representative from Kellogg told me that the soil does not have mushrooms. Mushroom spores are in the air and mushrooms can grow anywhere under the right conditions especially in shaded and moist areas. The soil where the mushrooms grew was shaded and therefore almost always wet since it was watered every day. The representative also told me that the Kellogg's soil has the right amount of peat moss and the reason it didn't seem to hold water was me over watering. Not sure about that but I did amend my soil with peat moss which could have contributed to the mushroom problem. Next year, I will reduce my watering and not add peat moss and see what happens. Overall, I believe the soil is good quality and excellent value for the price. I will definitely buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Stuff! I have been buying and using this product since I discovered it a couple of years ago. It is a great value, is useable right from the bag and grew some terrific vegetables and herbs. I have found nothing else this good anywhere close to the same price. The organic goodies in it will feed your plants for several weeks with no added fertilizers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super easy to purchase online and have waiting at the store! I am using this product in conjunction with Kellogg's Raised Bed and Potting mix, as well as some coir mixed in to lighten the mix for my containers, as I am physically disabled and must use a medical scooter to get around now. I am using both standard plastic containers as well as plastic grow bags. I like the fact that I don't have to go to the store to pick out what I want/need, it's all right there on the website with detailed descriptions as well. It makes it sooo much easier for me that way! I'm having a pretty good season right now, yes, in parts of AZ we can grow quite a few veggies and herbs as we have pretty mild winters in the Phoenix Metro area. I do have to say, will all the things that are inside this soil, it appears to be pretty nice soil. I do have to say also that I will not be getting any more of the "Raised Bed and Potting Mix" that Kellogg makes as it had a fine coating of mold on the soil when I opened the bag and I've had a lot of problems with fungus gnats since using it. I've had to spray with Neem oil several times already, which seems to help. But they keep coming back. Generally I like the product line from Kellogg's. Very good price as well.
