Product Overview

Kellogg Garden Organics Amend Garden Soil for Flowers and Vegetables promotes growth of vegetables and flowers as well as bedding plants and ground cover. Amend is designed to be mixed with your native soil for in-ground planting. Its nutrient rich formulation has added gypsum to help soften compacted soils, making work easier in the garden. This also improves soil drainage, making it easier for water to reach plant roots for healthier, more-lush growth. Adding a nutrient-rich organic garden soil like Amend to your native soil will help with better water penetration, requiring less watering in your garden. Use Kellogg Garden Organics Amend for your in-ground planting needs. Its formulation is Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listed. You can be certain you are using a credible organic product in your garden. Look for the OMRI logo found on all Kellogg Garden Organics soils and fertilizers, giving you assurance you are using a product that is proven organic. Like all Kellogg products, Amend is safe for people and pets to be in contact with. No protective gloves or garments are necessary because there are no harmful synthetic chemicals. Since 1925, family owned and operated Kellogg Garden Products have been producing quality organic soils and fertilizers and is committed to using natural, earth friendly ingredients to create credible organic products for your garden.

Answer:
no, it is not a planting mix, it is a manure, its too concentrated to plant into. Contains sewer sludge, cow manure, chicken manure, and feather meal.

Answer:
Amend Garden Soil for Flowers and Vegetables is not recommended for the lawn. Kellogg Garden Organics Topper for Lawn, Sod and Seed will work best to fill in bare spots and provide the best environment to germinate lawn seeds. Follow directions on the back of the bag and be sure to keep the area moist so lawn seeds will germinate.

Answer:
Amend is formulated to be used in your garden bed, mixed 50/50 with your native soil. It is not ideally suited for raised beds. We recommend Kellogg Garden Organics Raised Bed & Potting Mix. This formulation can be used right from the bag, no mixing required.

Amend is designed to be mixed 50/50 with native soil as an amendment to improve the quality of the soil. If used without mixing, it may harm the plants.

We made a box to grow vegies, one ft. tall, approx. 4'x8'. The bottom is wired for gophers, not wood. Not thinking the soil bags had to be mixed, we dumped mostly bags of amend with some bags of compost into the box. So i know it is too rich. Do we have to remove half of it?

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Full of little bugs Bought this product at Home Depot, after transplanting a few house plants we started noticing little tiny bugs all over the place. Checked inside of bag and found it full. Will never buy this product again June 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bugs I planted a new garden with this soil, never having any problems with bugs. Then I notice my new plants begin to turn brown on the bottoms of their leaves. So I take a closer look and see a ton of little mites all around my plants and all over the soil. I didn't know where they came from but when I went to go plant my Japanese maple tree several days later with my other bag of soil, I looked in and those very same bugs were in my new bag of Amend soil. All over! Didn't plant my tree sadly and now not sure how to get rid of all of these little bugs in my new garden. May 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Results This Amend works great for tough clay soil, Its been a year since I've amended my soil and planted. I wanted to wait a full year to see the results and I'm thrilled with my plants and would use this again and again. Happy Gardening! March 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Organic Plus Garden soil Finding organic garden products is always a challenge. So when you find one that works it is always a plus. I used this product in my vegetable garden raised beds. As you can see I am serious about using the best product to get the best results. September 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amend in my Garden! It feels great to be able to AMEND my earth to help my plants grow better! June 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for mulching So it isn't organic -- but it wasn't advertised that way. As a beginning gardener I used this to mix in my soil to enrich the preexisting. Once I noticed its mulch-like quality (and further information provided on this website confirms this) - I started using for the ground around my plants. Let me tell you. I have weeds. Every two days weeds. I can't take naps in the afternoon anymore because I need to weed every afternoon, weeds. But 50% of my garden is mulched with this product and not one SINGLE weed has poked it's head through. Slowly I am working this over my garden and although I have not read the previous review. It seemed terribly low for such a satisfying product. Mulch with it :} March 17, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OMRI Listed The *new* Amend is organic OMRI listed and does not contain sludge aka bio solids composted or otherwise. I still have a bag from two or three years ago and the label is not the same. The old Amend was not organic OMRI listed but the new one is. To get OMRI listing the product can not contain bio solids. I mix in the soil before planting tomatoes and then mulch with the same product. A little less wood in Amend and I would give it five stars. Good value when on sale. April 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ranks #1 I've used Kellogg Amend for years. It not only has the best ingredients for plants but stays in the soil forever. I mix Kellogg Amend with Supersoil with great results. As a matter of fact, I'm on my way to Home Depot today to purchase several bags of Kellogg Amend. Shirley in Alpine, Calif. April 19, 2012
