I am using a corner picket fence on both sides of the driveway entrance using square columns and wanted to mount these on top of the center posts. It does not look like they would work. I really wanted them. They match well with the others I plan to use on the house, Hampton Bay Harbor wall lanterns. I tried to send a picture of the picket corner fencing but there was a pixel problem so it did not work. Anyway, how can this be mounted on the top of an 6x6 post?

Hello Judi,
The easiest way to accomplish getting the lantern onto a post is with a post adapter. This mounts to the bottom of the lantern and leaves it with a square base to attach to the post.
Now since your post are 6 x 6 ( 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 actual) the post may need to be trimmed down slightly to fit. Using a circular saw set to a blade depth of 1/2 inch. Measure a 1/2" border around the top and around Read More

Now since your post are 6 x 6 ( 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 actual) the post may need to be trimmed down slightly to fit. Using a circular saw set to a blade depth of 1/2 inch. Measure a 1/2" border around the top and around the edge. Clamp a 2 x 4 to the post and use it as a guide for the saw. I'm including a link to lantern adapter page and an image of one below. I hope this helps and if you have questions about how to perform the cut I mentioned above be sure to reach out to us over at: www.community.homedepot.com
