Strap to wall?

Can this cabinet be strapped to a wall for added safety (children, earthquake, etc.)? If so, is there a specific strap that is to be used or any of the straps that are available for purchase?
Asked by: SDSD
It has a tall narrow profile, so depending on how contents are organized and loaded it could be prone to tipping. There are holes molded through the back side of the cabinet that can be used to screw or fasten the cabinet to a wall.

35 in. x 74 in. Wide XL Freestanding Plastic Utility Cabinet in Black is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 105.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid purchase. Impressed with the construction of this unit. Worried that plastic would be flimsy, but Keter seems to have put thought into this. The shelf strength was the deal closer on this, but would be nice to have additional shelf or at least option to purchase more. Is nice addition to shop and has already helped with my organization.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks good, but not as sturdy as would think After seeing this cabinet on display at Home Depot, I purchased two for my garage at 169.99+9% sales tax a piece. The assembly was very straight-forward. All pieces click on to each other, only the doors need to be screwed in. Overall the looks are good. I did receive one door piece with a manufacturing defect - big plastic knot right in the center. I called Keter customer support and they were very good about sending me a replacement. The bad is that if the base gets even a little out of square, the doors don't align to the frame and hits the base keeping it from closing properly. They do have height adjusters on the front two legs for this reason, but the issue with them is that because of where the adjuster is located (it is in the inside corner of the leg and not in the middle), if you use the adjuster to slightly lift it up, the plastic leg bows in. Its difficult to explain, its just a bad design. For almost ~200, I do not recommend these cabinets. I should have just gone with the Gladiator steel cabinets of the same size which were on sale for 230.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well Engineered but Frustrating to Assemble I recently got this cabinet to store tools and supplies in my garage. I wanted a sturdy fixture with shelves that would not sag under the weight of heavy tools and gallons of paint. Though the unit is relatively lightweight, the shelves are metal-reinforced and the corner bracing is engineered with dense plastic materials so that I am confident it is easily up to the task. Still, I suggest it be loaded with caution, because the tall, narrow profile can make it prone to tipping unless it is properly loaded and possibly secured to a wall. Features I like: (1) the spring-assist door hinges that hold the doors fully open, or hold them securely closed (see picture), (2) the large visible door handles that help facilitate opening even with hands full (see picture), (3) the two adjustable front feet that compensate for uneven floors, (4) the ability to padlock the doors (see picture), (5) holes molded through and into the back of the unit to allow it to be securely fastened to a wall for safety, (6) shelf-clips at the back of each of the 3 shelves, to prevent them from sliding out (see picture), (7) wide open access through the front door, (8) adjustable shelf positions. Although the cabinet is quite large (35w x 74h x 15d), it arrived in a small and compact shipping container, with all of the components neatly nested together. This would make it easy to transport the product before assembly. What I dislike: (1) The cabinet has a tendency to “flex” a bit if pushed from the side, causing the front doors to go slightly out of alignment. This can be cured by securing the back of the unit to a wall. (2) Assembly of the product was VERY challenging. The sheer number of small parts needed to assemble the product was surprising (see picture), and although the instructions contain an illustrated parts list, I still had difficulty identifying some of the parts because the part number molded into the black plastic, made it difficult to see. A few parts had no identification, and I relied on the instruction manual illustration to make an educated guess. To ease the process, I started by organizing the parts by size/shape and labeling some of them with painters tape. Not only did this assure me that I had all the needed parts before starting, it also helped me to become familiar with the different parts. And although the “wordless” instructions provided reasonably well-drawn illustrations to identify most of the parts and their location on the assembled product, they lacked written notations in some critical areas where it was also necessary to properly orient the parts in order to get them to fit together. Only after much consternation wondering whether I had received a defective part, did I see for example, the instruction that was molded into the dark plastic of one part I was attempting to install that stated “This Side Out.” Molded as it was into the black plastic made it nearly invisible (see picture), and there was no reference to this in the printed instructions that came with the product. Makes me wonder what kind of pre-production consumer testing was performed? What I learned during this assembly process, was that the parts are engineered to easily fit together provided that you have selected the proper part and that it is correctly oriented to a mating part (i.e., it is not backward, inside out or upside down). You might be tempted to use a rubber mallet to bring certain parts together (I was), but that would be a mistake here. If you don’t have the proper part in hand, or it is not positioned correctly, the parts are designed so that they will not easily “snap” together. Once a part “clicks” together, it is not possible to pull it apart without destroying it. Fortunately, I did not ruin anything. I encountered this difficulty several times during assembly. I am a very experienced do it yourselfer, but at one point I was so frustrated with the assembly, that I almost considered abandoning the process. Despite frustration with the assembly, I believe this is a well-engineered product. Clearly this product is deserving of better written instructions and parts identification, possibly even a video clip that can be accessed on the manufacturer’s web-site.

We were looking for a cabinet for our garage - to get all that miscellaneous stuff off the floor and make it neat. We tried buying metal cabinets - they were all flimsy so we returned them. I noticed one of these cabinets at my local home depot in their office. I asked where that came from and they pointed me to it online. I never thought I wanted plastic -- but this is very strong plastic. It's strong and thick and the cabinet feels very stable. I will probably buy another. I didn't put it together, a friend of ours did, so I have no idea whether it was easy or hard to do. He didn't seem to have any problem. He did say it was much easier to put it together with 2 people.

However, I bought two this size and both arrived damaged. The first one had a broken connecting piece, which was integral to the sturdiness of the cabinet, and a few cracked panels. I was able to make it work. The second one had cracked panels as well. In that regard I was disappointed with the quality, but overall, the cabinets are sturdy enough to meet my needs. I could not afford the more expensive steel cabinets and these were affordable. It's too bad that quality has to suffer to fit affordability. They were easy to put together and the shelves seem to be sturdy enough that they won't sag. I would not recommend putting a heavy load on them though. They work for holding my power tools. I would recommend them to someone on a budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful Size and No Rust Worries! I was looking for a basement storage cabinet and this one is a very good size (wider than others I found). It is made of plastic material, so I knew that I would not have any concern about it rusting in a basement environment that can get humid in the summer. However, I would really recommend this utility cabinet for any part of the house (i.e., garage, attic) because of its nice design and size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Storage Cabinet Received last Friday the 35 in. X 74 in. cabinet. What I like most about this cabinet that it is 35 inches wide and it sets up off the floor with it feet so that one can clean under it. Stand alone cabinet was put together fairly quickly, took about an hour and half to assemble, even with the pictured instructions that I am not a big fan of. I would recommend this product to all.
