HOW OFTEN DO THESE DEVISES HAVE TO BE CHANGED

Asked by: BIGBOB
According to the manual (the PDF is available above) they warranty these detectors for 7 years. Kiddie does sell other combination smoke/CO detectors that they warranty for 10 years (model KN-COSM-IBA). There are some other differences in addition to the warranty period. The KN-COSM-IBA are ionization smoke detectors (where these are photoelectric) and use 2 AA batteries for backup where these use 9V.

is dedicated circuit for series of alarms needed?

finishing basement and using these detectors, when wiring these in a series so they all go off when one goes off, can I use an existing lighting circuit (assuming enough capacity) or is it usually advisable to run a dedicated circuit?
Asked by: Danilo1
need to check your local codes , but a dedicated circuit is recommended

What does it mean that it's "Inter Connectable?"

Can I install it as a standalone?
Asked by: GadiK
This, and most hardwired smoke detectors, have the ability to be interconnected so that when one alarm goes off, they all sound off. 3-wire is required between the alarms for this. They may also be wired standalone.

Where do the wires connect to?

The picture shows 3 wires, white, black, and red. Are the white/black connect to the house grid's white/black? What to do with the red wire?
Asked by: GadiK
The red wire is for the interconnect feature - when one alarms goes off, they all go off. This requires that they were wired with 3-wire. If there is no red wire in the house wiring when you go to replace the detector, just leave it capped off as it came.

Replaced 9 year old units from a different manufacturer that were giving false alarms. After removing the mounting plate and wiring plugs for the old units these wired right in and installed easily. So long as you respect electricity and turn the power off this is an easy project for the DIYer. So far so good after a few weeks. No false alarms! The fact that it talks and tells you what the alarm is instead of trying to interpret lights and beeps, especially when the issue is a backup battery going out. The battery access is nice on this one as well. Opens easily by pushing on it and the batter is held in lightly with a clip. My previous units came out the side of the detector and did not do so easily.

This is one of the most modern 120-Hardwired Combination Smoke and CO Alarm detectors on the current market. I hired an electrician to install, but now I have a peace of mind to potentially save lives. To buy or sale a house now requires both a Smoker Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector. Many Appraisers prefer to see a Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector on each floor of the house and each bedroom. The lower quality smoke detectors and plug in Carbon Monoxide detectors have a higher chance to fail you during an true emergency.

Very pleased with the top-loading battery, which eliminates the need to remove the unit to replace the 9 volt battery. Having both smoke and CO detection built into one unit makes sense. Perfect for the basement, near the furnace and/or gas-fired water heater. Product has been installed a few months so far, no problems. Would highly recommend.

Replaced these units due to their age one or more had started to give false alarms. Checking the house at 4:30am is not my idea of a good time. The units I wanted to replace were also firex. When I checked Consumer Reports I found that Kidde had bought firex since mine had been installed. Kidde was one of the top rated ones and upon checking I found that firex carried the exact same model number as Kidde. My home has three floors including the basement and is hardwired. The only problem was that the electrical pigtail connector had been changed in the new models so each box had to have this as well as the base plate changed. Instead of 2 or 3 minutes each allow 10 minutes. The design is an improvement and these units have the battery backup replacement door on the face so you don't have to take them down to replace the batteries. So far they appear to be working fine.

I purchased the photoelectric 3 pack Smoke & CO' alarm to update from a older S & C alarm system that was a good price. As we all know it's a law esp, if you are going to sell your house. As always I document and take a few copies one I place in my insurance, homeowners file, and make a copy of the receipts & place them in the location I purchased the above. Very easy to install as the wire was already in place.

My home had the original smoke detectors from when it was built, I figured for the safety of my family and I that it was time to replace them. They were easy to install, connecting to the wiring already existing, they were a snap to install. I like the fact that they talk and let you be able to differentiate between smoke and carbon monoxide. I was able to combine the two products as well.

Replaced my 20 year old hardwired detectors with these combo smoke/CO detectors. Took less than 10 minutes each to swap them out, easy to install and I like how easy the 9V battery is to access for replacement. A bit spendy when you have to replace 7 of them, but have peace of mind knowing that they are good to go for another 10 years.
