How heavy is this ladder?

I was wondering about the weight of the ladder and the ease of use. I wanted to place this in my child's room.

It weight 2KG, simple to use , just unfold. It is full assembly. Hang on the edge of window and let it fall down, that's it.

Has anyone ever used one of these ladders to escape thru a window? It looks terribly difficult to maneuver yourself thru a window that has a sill that is 44 inches above the floor, and only 30" x 30" opening. No handholds, except around the edges of the window. Is there a video showing how to get onto the ladder under such a condition. A young flexible, strong person, probably not a problem; but for someone 60 or even 90 years old, looks impossible.
Asked by: Tom
No, but when I tried to hang it from my window, it wouldn't even hang. I have a small wood ledge that extends about an inch out from the wall and made it so this ladder would never hang securely enough to climb from. The ladder was made for only the most basic, wall-only window, with no ledge. When we tried hanging it out, the only thing keeping it on the wall was the little plastic caps on the ends.

13 ft. L 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from emergency escape ladder Product clearly indicates that to be used only once so I should not even try it out once. Returned it and bought other brand where I could at least try out once to see how it worked. How can you trust a product just work as advertise in the most critical time without trying it out before hand?

No one can give anything valid but a 1 rating unless they have used this device. I purchased the device and then discovered it is for one time use only. What a joke!!! I want to test it and see how hard it is to climb out the window and down to the ground. I called Kidde and was advised that once it is deployed the lines can not be refolded. Keep in mind that the steps were folded in a production setting by laborers in China {China per Kidde instruction sheet}. How do we know if it was folded properly to start with? I want to know if it will unfold and is usable. I returned it to Home Depot. This is not to say the product is not a great device but in my opinion how do I know unless I try it? Other product recommend trying their ladders.

But this ladder will NOT hang over the window sill securely. Unless you have the most bare, basic window set into a wall (with no ledge) this ladder is not a good fit. Our window ledge adds only about 1" to the width of the wall, but the white hook you see in the picture will not work to hang the ladder from it. This seems like a very strange design.

A neighbor suffered a house fire late last year and was injured when they didn't have an escape ladder. Needless to say, I went and got one soon after that. I like the solid construction and how quickly it sets up. I truly believe that this would save my life if I ever needed it.
