Answer:
Hello Ron. No. This alarm only works with other alarms of the same model. To use this alarm, all of the alarms would have to be this model. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788.

This US site has great reviews for the Kidde Wireless-Interconnected alarm and the Canadian site has terrible reviews, with people claiming they have to change the batteries monthly (even when using the recommended Energiser batteries).

Just looking for additional feedback on battery life from a recent purchaser (past 6 months or so)

Answer:
Hello Cory. The batteries should last six months to a year as long as you use the approved Energizer E91 alkaline AA batteries or the Kidde brand alkaline AA batteries with a good use-by date of at least 6 or 7 years out, which today in 2016 would be 2023 or beyond. Customers who have issues with our alarms where the batteries are not lasting long enough should definitely contact us at Kidde Product Read More

Answer:
Our alarms are designed to do their best to balance between avoiding nuisance alarms and still being sensitive to smoke and hopefully most of the smoke of the fireplace goes up the chimney. However, heat can increase the sensitivity of this alarm. However, heat can increase the sensitivity of this alarm. Just try to keep the alarm at least about 5 to 10 feet away from right above the fireplace and if you still have issues with nuisance alarms from heat pooling at the alarm, be prepared to move the alarm further from the fireplace. Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lost in the warehouse. Product met my expectations BUT unit shipped by HD is TWO YEARS OLD. Manufactured 2014 and I don't like it. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid and reliable! Solid product, easy to program and setup with WINK! My parents have three of them I installed in 1/2 hour. They are very loud and accurate!! The install especially on ONE point (no lining up screws!) was super easy! June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sleek Design Easy to install, looks clean and modern, has the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide combination which I really liked. Overall happy! May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Easy to Install I installed 2 of these alarms in my home. 1 in each of my kids bedrooms. before you start you need to pair any alarms before you install them. This is just so if 1 alarm goes off, they all go off. you just set the code pad found in the battery compartment and then they are set and ready to use. these also have voice notifications as well. to install you just need to insert a single drywall screw for the mount and just twist the alarm into place. quick and easy. these have been in place for over a month and I have not had to replace the batteries. requires 3 AA batteries which are included. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect safety system for the whole house Among all other Kidde's fire alarms, this one has the best and easiest installation mechanism. A major plus of this alarm is that it detects both fire and carbon mono oxide, Second plus is that it has a voice alarm along with beeps that clearly identifies the threat. The third and most important plus is that all these alarms are interconnected wireless . It creates such a ruckus that everyone will be up and running out in seconds. I am very happy and feel a lot safer with these alarms. Although would have preferred 9 volts batteries as they last longer instead of 3 AA batteries which come included with the alarms. It can also be used with Wink Connected Home Hub. August 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Happy with my purchase Very easy to link several detectors together. Once connected to the Wink Hub you can get notifications anywhere if the detectors are tripped. It won't replace dedicated system monitoring but it does not have a monthly service charge. It will also send you an alert when the batteries need replacing. February 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 1/2 the price of the Nest! I like this unit because it connects to my Wink App via the Wink Hub and provides Smoke, CO, and Battery status on my Smartphone at half the cost of the Nest Smoke Detector. It is also a Brand that I trust and have been using for years, unlike the Nest which has had a multitude of problems and complaints. December 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great peace of mind. Easy to set up! Really like these. Took no time at all to set up. If you have a multi story home these give you peace of mind. I have a hard time waking up and I've always been concerned about what would happen if there was a fire or excess CO in the basement while I was sleeping on the 2nd floor. Especially since I tend to close the door to the basement as well as my basement door. Each unit can detect smoke or carbon monoxide. If there's a fire you'll have both so the voice prompt will only say "Fire". Kidde has a long history in this field. I'm not the type of guy that cares who's name is on my jeans but when it comes to things that can save my life, brands matter to me. Now I have one of these in the 2nd floor hallway outside the bedrooms and one in the basement just outside the utility room. If something triggers the alarm in the basement, either smoke or carbon monoxide, the alarm in the 2nd floor hallway will also start making noise. In addition to the piercing alarm sound, a voice tells you if the alert is for fire or carbon monoxide. After installing the detectors I could tell right away that the communication was working fine after pressing the test button. From the basement I was able to faintly hear the 2nd floor alarm and vice versa. There's a slight delay in the other alarm after the first one triggers so you can hear the alarm in the distance during the pauses of the triggered alarm. I was very impressed at how easy it was to set up. Read the instructions for proper placement then set the code using the dip switches in the battery compartment. Using a pen or pencil just come up with some random code on one of the units and then set up the same code on all the others. Don't leave the default code in case there's someone else nearby using the same Kidde wireless smoke detectors. Then just install the included 3 AA batteries in each unit and test them one by one. All the alarms should sound when you trigger one and you can have up to 12 working together. Very easy to install too. One small plastic mounting stud gets attached to your ceiling (or wall) with a single screw that is included in the packaging, along with a plastic drywall anchor. Then just slide the detector on the post and rotate to a visually pleasant orientation. I find it easier than the standard 2 screw mounts where you try and blindly insert one screw then the other. Batteries must be installed or the detector won't mount to the wall. It would have been nice if the voice alert could tell you which detector had tripped but for small installations it should be easy to figure out. If I am woken in the middle of the night by the fire alarm and pass the one in the 2nd floor hallway without seeing smoke I can safely assume it's in the basement. Really, you shouldn't care where the alarm is coming from. Your main concern should be getting out. I'll eventually get one to replace the CO/Smoke detector on the first floor two but my main concern was having the two most distant locations connected. These detectors can only work with the same model of wireless Smoke and CO detectors. They won't connect with other wireless alarms from Kidde. This is only an issue if you already have other wireless detectors installed that you don't want to replace. For me it wasn't an issue. Can connect with a Wink home automation HUB to send you alerts remotely but I don't have one to test it out. August 25, 2014
