Answer:
Hello Kendal. You can use it in an auto shop but it is not rated for paper or trash fires. Contact your local fire marshal's office or local authority having jurisdiction over fire codes in your area and find out what kind of extinguishers you are required to have, how many, and where to put them to meet your local codes. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best Deal Around We needed fire extinguishers for our field trucks. After shopping/comparing Home Depot has the best product for the best price. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good price . Bought one and place it in the garage just in case . Only thing not happy with that is the mounting kit are trash , made by cheap plaste , can't hold very well . Did research same brand mounting kit don't fit very well also . At the end home make one by 2x4 lumber from last project and some aluminum bar , total cost $3 , now it look very handsome :) February 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rental fire protection Having serval rentals units and time for inspection. Easy to hang/install and easy for tenants to use March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fire Extinguisher Hopefully never have to use! Fire Extinguisher is small enough to fit under my sink and was a good buy. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saved Thanksgiving dinner Had one of these for years, never needed it. Then Thanksgiving dinner came around, there were probably 25 to 30 of us sitting around watching Green Lantern on DVD, my sister came running out of the kitchen screaming "the oven is on fire!" "But I am watching Green Lantern!" I replied. I moved my daughter off my lap and headed to the kitchen. ID where the fire was. Asked people to move the food away from the area as I grab the fire extinguisher from under the sink. Aimed it at the bottom of the flame. Squeezed off two quick bursts, then that was it. Dinner was saved and I went back watching one of the worst super hero movie ever made. Get one. It's totally worth it. September 11, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Necessary item This extinguisher was purchased for a dune buggy. Hopefully I will never have the need to use it. The engine is exposed to the elements and felt that it would be a item that might some day be necessary. November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Includes a mounting bracket No-place in the description did it mention that a mounting bracket was included. I wasted a lot of time shopping for a mounting bracket, only to find that one was already in the box. Home Depot was negligent in not mentioning this in the description. September 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by happily haven't used it but looks could probably scare flames easy to hook up to kitchen cabinet and passed town inspection July 21, 2015
