are these kidde 5 B:C fire extinguisher are good for the kitken

Asked by: robert
Hello Robert. A class fires are paper, wood, and trash fires. B class fires are grease, oil, and other liquid fuel fires. C class fires are electrical fires. BC extinguishers are not rated for A-class fires but they are much less likely to damage a stove or an oven or a microwave. The ABC powder will put out all three kinds of fires but the powder can fuse to hot metal and force you to replace that part of your oven or stove. Best practice is often to have a BC extinguisher like this near the stove or oven and keep at least one large ABC extinguisher per floor centrally located for all kinds of fires. You can then get additional fire extinguishers for other locations to make sure you can always reach a fire extinguisher. You can contact your local Fire Marshal's office or local fire department for further recommendations. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved Thanksgiving dinner Had one of these for years, never needed it. Then Thanksgiving dinner came around, there were probably 25 to 30 of us sitting around watching Green Lantern on DVD, my sister came running out of the kitchen screaming "the oven is on fire!" "But I am watching Green Lantern!" I replied. I moved my daughter off my lap and headed to the kitchen. ID where the fire was. Asked people to move the food away from the area as I grab the fire extinguisher from under the sink. Aimed it at the bottom of the flame. Squeezed off two quick bursts, then that was it. Dinner was saved and I went back watching one of the worst super hero movie ever made. Get one. It's totally worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No brainer. When it comes to smoke alarms, Carbon Monoxide detectors or the brakes on your car -... No brainer. When it comes to smoke alarms, Carbon Monoxide detectors or the brakes on your car - it's all the same thing. You get them to save your life and the lives of others "because yu never know". These fire extinguishers work. Also, Just because you have one in a kitchen cabinet somewhere - check it - they don't last forever. Make sure that the needle is in the green but even if it is... If it's been like 10 -15 years since you bought it go to Home Depot and replace it. For $15-$20 it's worth it a million times over.
