I purchased two of these CO2 detectors in 2010. The display on one unit failed after 6 months. Being out of return policy, I was stuck with it. It did work, as I tested them every 3 months. Batteries have to be replaced about every 7 months, which is typical. One unit started having the end of life beep last year followed by the other this year, so I am now in need of replacing them. The units are thicker than a standard smoke alarm, so be weary where you mount them. They don't last 7 years, they usually fail within 4-5. I will look for longer lasting units next time.

I ordered two of these CO2 alarms and Home Depot shipped me the wrong items. Luckily, I was able to just go into my local HD and exchange them for the correct ones.
So far, they seem like good alarms--I haven't had any situations. Based on all of the Home Depot and Amazon reviews, I decided to go with the Kidde Nighthawk. I had wanted to get plug-in type, but they didn't rate as well. With this model, you don't have to worry about if there is an outlet to plug-in the device; you either mount it to a wall or sit on a surface. I also like the digital display. I plan on replacing my smoke detectors with Kidde ones.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by george good to have in your home. great value. lcd display a must
bought to replace 15 year old nighthawk co monitor. sensors are supposed to last only so long but when i ran the new next to the old they read the same. if this one lasts as long as the old, it is an exceptional value.
love the portability of being battery operated. peak level feature is nice. you can check to see if any low level readings have taken place in your absence. also if you keep an eye on it it could signal a problem long before it is a health issue. if you have any gas/propane/oil or kerosene burning appliances this is a must. especially at the low cost of the unit

We now have one of these alarms on every level. The first one we purchased actually alarmed in the middle of the night and we had to have the Fire Department come to the house and check each level. The maximum level feature told them the actual reading and fortunately it was just detectable . We have had no further alarms, but use one on each level in our house and check them regularly with the test feature and low battery light.

Fortunately, my alarm has never detected any elevated levels of carbon monoxide. But, I am still very happy with it. The digital display is a useful and fun feature. I am also glad that the alarm takes regular alkaline AA batteries instead of the more costly 9-volt batteries. The alarm also has an end-of-life indicator, which will tell me to replace it after 7 years. I would recommend this product over the detectors without the digital display, but only because the digital display is a cool feature.

We bought this after having problems with your traditional monitor at home. We acually had a carbon monoxide leak and neither of our our old monitors went off.. I love this one because it can be placed anywhere in home, taken with you on trips, and gives you an actual numeric display of amount of carbon monoxide in the air.

I wanted a carbon monoxide detector that was not part of out whole house alarm, smoke, carbon monoxide system. I could have chosen a more permanent device, but I liked the idea of being able to put it where we would be spending much of our time. It displays the current reading and allows you to recall the highest level registered. As the heating plant and the built in detector age, I am happy to have the security of this portable device.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bruiser NO backlit display
Description says "Backlit display feature allows for reading in the dark" Either I purchased two defective units or there is no backlit display as advertised. However, for the price it's still a good deal.
