You mentioned that this item cannot be sent to CA, yet you also said order online and can be sent to and picked up at my local store in Los Angeles, CA Which is true? Is this comb smoke & CO alarm legal to use in Los Angeles, CA?? Thanks for your info.
Asked by: Mightymouse
There is probably an issue with your locality about shipping lithium batteries to mailboxes or something. Just a guess...

I tried rechargeable batteries after my alarm stopped working. Does rechargeable batteries work with this device?

Asked by: NkeyaPC
Hello NkeyaPC. No, they will not. Our alarms have a unique way of testing the batteries and rechargeable batteries will not test properly in the alarm. We would recommend Energizer Max E91 alkaline batteries or the Kidde AA alkaline batteries. The Duracell AA alkaline batteries used to be compatible with our smoke and carbon monoxide alarm; however Duracell made a design change to their AA alkaline batteries that while they feel is a design improvement, the design change takes the batteries out of the specifications that the alarm is looking for in batteries. We apologize for any inconvenience and the batteries are available on this website. Energizer Max E91 are Model # E91MP8ACS, Internet #206520631, Store SKU #103328 and the Kidde batteries are the Model # 21025831, Internet #205976053 .

Battery Operated Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alert is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 167.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent fire and carbon monoxide talking alarm This excellent fire and carbon monoxide talking alarm is easy to install and batteries last more than a year, it is a must to have if you care about fire or carbon monoxide inside your dwelling. Two years ago after a city inspection recommendation, I installed two in my unit and now installing 3 more in other units.

The one in my kitchen did go off when I burnt some food. Of course, I'll never know how well this works until it actually saves my life. And if it doesn't work, I won't be in a position to give a bad review.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Time will tell We had the previous version of this detector at our old house. It lasted about 7 years before it started going through batteries every few weeks (not sure how it could happen). One bad thing about the old version was when the battery would get low, sometimes it would say warning, warning, carbon monoxide. So then you start freaking out, but we have another carbon monoxide detector, so we could always double check it. I wouldn't have bought this one again, except it's a good price for a smoke detector and carbon monoxide in one. I didn't feel like spending an arm and a leg, and it does work if there's ever smoke, so hopefully the new version will just beep when the battery is low, and not give us a false alarm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Here she is, just hanging there looking pretty and blinking at me with her beautiful red LED ever... Here she is, just hanging there looking pretty and blinking at me with her beautiful red LED every 60 seconds to let me know that she's checking for smoke and CO... she's mesmerizing, and has provided hours of entertainment so far! And if you ever get lonely and bored, just push her test button for some extra excitement as she will speak to you/beep at you. Though, I must say, she's not much of a conversationalist, as she just repeats the same rather monotone phrases ("Warning, smoke detected"; "Warning, carbon monoxide detected") over and over with beeps in between. I think she's hard of hearing because she speaks/beeps loudly and doesn't respond to verbal input. I'm going to have to deduct her one point due to the lack meaningful conversation; oh, and due to the fact that her sensor has only about a 7-year life, thus requiring periodic replacement. I'd prefer a longer term relationship. She is, however, relatively low maintenance and low cost with just periodic battery replacement (2 AA) which is a characteristic I like that in a lady. She replaces my previous Kidde smoke & CO detector, which conveniently let me know she needed replaced in the middle of the night with incessant beeping (she will also let you know in the middle of the night when her batteries need replaced). I'd prefer more traditional "honey-do list" left for me on the frig or the kitchen counter in the morning, but seeing as she doesn't have hands, I'd settle for a note sent via e-mail or text. I do like the fact that this newer model has access to battery compartment from the front of the unit; no need to remove it from the wall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not buy again I would not recommend this product. In the last 45 days it has twice chirped incessantly- and asking, yes asking in a ceeepy human voice, for new batteries. The first was completely acceptable (even at 3am). But after fresh new batteries, less than 45 days later it it went off again asking for new batteries. I would not think that there would be that much draw on the batteries, as its hardwired to the electrical. Furthermore, and most importantly within those 45 days I had an oven fire. The house was completely full of thick black smoke. The fire department came to my rescue. But this battery-eater never went off once.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's nice until it completely dies after a year with no warranty This seems to be a nice product when functioning. However, recently it started malfunctioning by just beeping very loudly non-stop, for no reason. Even on fresh batteries. On the plus side, the alarm is VERY loud. Another cheap Chinese (HKG) product, Kidde has a history of recalled items and has no warranty on anything they sell it seems. Not worth it.

No CO sources in house, total electric but installed near garage door in case something leaks from there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Install Needed several new detectors installed at a home being sold. These were inexpensive, easy to install and satisfied the inspector. I prefer to install separate units, one for smoke up high on wall or ceiling and the carbon monoxide lower on the wall.
