The Kidde combination smoke/co battery operated alarm with voice alerting you of what danger it has detected in your home so there isn't any questions when awaken from a deep sleep with the simultaneously ringing siren. The preferred location of installation is on the ceiling, but I didn't want to install on a textured surface so mine was put on the wall. The placement needs to be between 4-12 inches below the ceiing when installed on the wall. It's simple to understand the instructions for both operating and installing.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MarilynB Love this talking Smoke/CO alarm!
This combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with voice is a great idea - now I don't have to worry about counting beeps and what the beeps mean because I can clearly hear the explanation of the functions. It tells me if the alarm is for a fire or a carbon monoxide warning. That is awesome! I love the idea of a combination alarm instead of all the separate ones we have around the house. Although I prefer my hardwired alarm, this battery operated type is great for those areas where power is not available, providing peace of mind at any location.
It was very easy to install, and the backplate fit perfectly over my old installation. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. The beep chart is printed on back of the unit so you can check it easily. It will chirp and tell you when the battery is low also or when the unit needs to be replaced. I like that the expiration of the sensor is after 10 years of use.
The voice is a pleasant woman's voice that will state either "fire" or "warning, carbon monoxide" and the light flashes red or green depending on the type of alarm. It comes with the 9-volt battery installed the and mounting screws.

Rated 1 out of 5 Failed after less than 1 year
This unit was installed one year ago, hardwired with two basic Kidde fire detectors. One night it started going off for no apparent reason. Our home was completely repainted before it was installed and we do not smoke. The alarm went off at 2AM with no apparent cause - no burning candles, no obvious dust in the air, the dog didn't even flatulate. I used the "hush" function and it went off again eight minutes later. We opened windows and turned on fans and a while later it went off again. Now I've changed the battery, blown the clean-looking unit out with canned air, and even opened the sealed unit to check all contacts and solder joints. Everything looks good, but as soon as I plug the battery in again, it goes off. I'm going in tomorrow to find a replacement from another manufacturer.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Richard8655 Best smoke and CO detector combo
This combination smoke and CO detector is the best value, in my opinion. Kidde detectors were the most highly rated in the leading consumer magazine. This detector uses the superior photoelectric smoke/fire sensor over the inferior ionization sensor found in cheaper models. In addition, the easily accessible 9 volt battery compartment (need to change only once a year) seals the deal. Finally, this sensor is guaranteed to last 10 years in continuous sensing operation. Most other sensors are only good for 5-7 years. Do you need to think more?

I guess it's better to be too sensitive than not. Just had to remember to put on fan in bathroom or shower steam would set it off. Works as needed.
