Customer Questions & Answers

this smoke detector was discontinued (Kidde 1276) what model should I use to replace it?

Asked by: joe
The alarm that directly replaces the 1276 is the i12060A, Model # 21006376, Internet # 202029420 . However, all current Kidde hardwired alarms are compatible with all other Kidde hardwired alarms, and all Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness. If you decide to replace your 1276 with an alarm of a different model than the I12060a, the only thing you would have to change is the plastic mounting bracket. The I12060A has the same mounting bracket as the 1276. The new alarms do come with a wiring harness that is slightly different than the wiring harness of the much older models from before 2004 and is made to be easier to take out of the back of the alarms, but the old wiring harnesses will work with the new alarms except for the KN-COSM-IBA, the I12010S, and the I12010SCO. The wiring harnesses can get brittle as they age and the plastic or the wires can break. Best practice is to change out the wiring harnesses every 10 years to avoid that from happening.
